There are many different approaches that JP Transport can take to reduce driver turnover rate. The job is tough and there is not much diversity in the workday. The company had tried to increase the pay, but the bad aspects of the work outweighed the good pay. I believe the trucking culture needs to change in general. It is not very inviting, especially for women. It is a typically tough job that requires workers with thick skin to get through their workdays. The trucking culture needs to continue to promote younger workers and even invite more women into the industry. Understanding the goals of the employees is the most important thing. Communicating between corporate and employees and making the workers feel heard and seen is the best way to change the trucker culture. It is important to understand what motivates the drivers. There are many distractions when it comes to driving and factors that drivers must consider. The drivers must learn a specific software or app, manage paperwork, communicate with shippers, and do repairs, it becomes too much for the drivers. If the drivers were only to focus on driving, I believe the turnover rate would decrease. The drivers need to know how important they are as well. They need to know that their work means something and is making an impact. The company can do this by rewarding their successes. Yes, it is very much feasible. Almost any company can take steps to reduce the turnover rates. If the company increases communication between corporate and the employees there would be a better understanding of what type of culture, there needs to be within the trucking industry. When the culture changes it will increase the amount of young people joining the force and even increase the number of women. This will increasingly change the culture within the workplace.
