Immunization should begin
any time after birth and continue
with the recommended schedule.
It helps to reduce morbidity and
mortality among infants and
children caused by the childhood
immunizable
diseasestuberculosis,
hepatitis
B,
diphtheria,
pertussis/whooping
cough, tetanus, poliomyelitis and
measles.
The community health as
the team leader must advocate
the importance of immunization
by coordinating the proper
schedule of immunization and
monitor the target groups to be
sure
that
they
are
fully
immunized.
A fully immunized child is
one who has received 1 dose of
BCG, 3 doses of Hepa B, DPT, OPV
and 1 dose of AMV at the
scheduled time before the child
reaches his birthday.

Site: Mouth
Reason: Poliomyelitis
Side Effects: Usually none
Management:
BCG
Live Attenuated bacterial vaccine
Dose: 0.05 cc
Route: ID
Site: Right deltoid of the arm
Reason: Tuberculosis, Leprosy,
Meningitis
Side Effects: Koch’s phenomenon(
acute inflammation),Deep abscess/
glandular enlargement with
suppuration, Indolent ulceration
Management: No management needed,
Incision and drainage, apply INH, Treat
with INH Powder
DPT
DT- toxoid
Dose: 0.5 cc
Route: IM
Site: Upper outer portion of the thigh
Reason: Diptheria , Pertussis , Tetanus
Side Effects: 24 hours fever,Local
soreness ,Abscess ,Convulsions
Management: Give antipyretics ,Apply
warm compress ,Incision and drainage,
Do not continue course of DPT
AMV
Live attenuated virus vaccine
Dose: 0.5 cc
Route: SC
Site: Left outer part of the arm
Reason: Measles & severe Diarrhea
Malnutrition ,Pneumonia
Side Effects: Fever after 5 to 7 days
lasts from 1 to 3 days , Mild rashes
Management: Give anti-pyretics
