OBJECTIVES
A. CONTENT STANDARD:
The learner demonstrates understanding of: Philippine literature in the Period of Emergence
as a tool to assert one’s identity; strategies in listening to and viewing of informative and short
narrative texts; word relationships and associations; informative speech forms; and use of
direct/reported speech, passive/ active voice, simple past and past perfect tenses, and
sentence connectors.
B. PERFORMANCE STANDARD:
The learner transfers learning by: showing ways of asserting one’s identity; comprehending
informative and short narrative texts using schema and appropriate listening and viewing
strategies; expressing ideas, opinions, and feelings through various formats; and enriching
written and spoken communication using direct/reported speech, active/passive voice, simple
past and past perfect tenses and connectors correctly and appropriately.

Identify and use signals that indicate coherence (e.g. additive - also, moreover; causative - as
a result, consequently; conditional/concessional - otherwise, in that case, however; sequential

• scan texts rapidly for connecting words or expressions;

A. PRELIMINARIES
Let’s start this day with an opening prayer. Everyone, please stand up and let’s bow our heads and
feel the presence of the Lord.
Classroom management:

B. ESTABLISHING A PURPOSE OF THE LESSON
MOTIVATION: Bridge of Words!
Let the students look at the pictures.
The following questions will be asked:
Is a bridge important?
What is the main purpose of a having a bridge?
What do you think will happen if there are no bridges?
LIGHT BULB MOMENT: Did you know that the longest bridge in the Philippines is no longer the
San Juanico Bridge? For the longest time in history, the San Juanico Bridge that links the islands of
Samar and Leyte has held the title of the longest bridge in the Philippines. It has a length of 2.1
kilometers.
On the other hand, the Cebu-Cordova bridge, also known as the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway or
CCLEX, measures 8.9 kilometers long, significantly dwarfing the San Juanico Bridge. (HISTORY)

ideas so that the readers will understand your passage.

Now, I have here a paragraph. I’m requesting everyone to read it carefully and evaluate the
