WHAT IS TARGET GAMES? Target games are activities in which children send an object towards a target. Some target games might also involve avoiding different obstacles, blocking the opposition’s thrown object or defending. Target games are usually included in children’s activities because it teaches them new skills and strategies that they can use in their day-to-day life. They will learn how to appreciate the distance, protect the shot, decide on different ways of throwing. WHAT ARE THE VALUES DISPLAYED IN PLAYING TARGET GAMES? Target games will also teach your little learners a wide variety of values, such as: • Teamwork - In order to win in some target games, children will have to learn how to cooperate with each other. • Discipline - Just like any other game, target games have rules and respecting them will underline the importance of discipline. • Confidence - Anyone can become good at any game with practice, so just by playing target games, children will start to believe more in themselves and the fact that they can make it. • Patience - On the same note, children will learn that skills are learned through practice and that practice takes time. Success won’t come overnight! • Decision-Making - Children will learn the ability to think fast and make a decision about what they want to do next in the game. This can be a first step on learning how to make decisions easier. WHAT IS TATSING? A game that requires tactics and high level of control. It is played with a "pamato" and bottle caps. Your goal here is to collect as many caps as you can. You can also eliminate your opponents by hitting their vulnerable pamatos. “Tatsing” is a game enjoyed by youngsters in the backyard. “Tatsing” comes from the English word touching. The objective of the game is to hit the bottle caps out of the square with one’s stone or “pamato” from the tow line. The player, who hits the most number of bottle caps out of the square, wins. The bottle caps may be substituted with marbles, rubber bands and coins. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE OF THE GAME • Tatsing comes from the English word: “touching” • Youngsters, especially boys, are fond of this game. • The aim of the game is to use the pamato to hit the bottle caps and drive them out of the square. • Playing the game also develops accuracy and hand-eye coordination. • The values of discipline, patience, and humility may also be gain if one plays the game properly. LOCATION AND MATERIALS USED IN THE GAME • Playing Area – a plain, level ground with a 1.5x1.5 feet square is placed. • Material- 12 bottle caps and a flat stone (pamato), per group. PROCEDURE • • • • • • • The class will be divided into 5 groups, excluding the facilitators. (1 – 5, 6 – 10, 1115, 16-20, 21-22) 12 bottle caps will be placed inside the square which is about 8 feet away from the starting line. Before the start of the game, the leaders per group will have to throws his pamato on/near the toe line. The player whose pamato lands on/nearest the toe line plays first and so on The first player will step on the starting line and hit the bottle caps out of the square by using the pamato. Ever cap that goes out of the square equates to one point for the group. The player continues to throw as long as caps get out of the square. The facilitators will be the ones to take note of the scores. If no caps get out of the square or if the pamato gets stuck in the sqaure, the player has to give way to the next player. PROCEDURE • The next player will hit the remaining bottle caps inside the square. • If she hits the pamato left by the previous player, then the previous player is has to miss a turn. • This next player continues to play until she is unable to hit any bottle caps or if her pamato gets stuck in the sqaure. • If all the bottle caps are out of the square, all the bottle caps will then be returned. • The game will continue until a group receives 12 points Good luck to everyone And That in all things, God may be glorified!
