Criterion A
Criterion B
1.
Create a glossary of all of the key structures that make up the gas exchange
system in humans. Write down a description or function for each.
2. Describe the process of exhalation
3. Define gas exchange
4. Define diffusion
5. Describe and explain how alveoli are adapted for efficient gas exchange
6. Outline the dangers of smoking
7. Give the word equation for aerobic respiration
8. How does aerobic respiration differ to anaerobic respiration?
9. What is the main product of anaerobic respiration in animals?
10. What are the products of anaerobic respiration in plants and
microorganisms?
You want to investigate the effects of smoking on breathing rate in
males aged 40. Design an investigation.

Criterion C
Criterion D
An investigation was carried out to the rate of anaerobic respiration in yeast. Different masses of yeast
was added to a conical flask with 5g of glucose and oxygen was removed. The volume of carbon dioxide
produced was collected over 10 minutes.
Delhi air has turned toxic after Diwali fireworks this year. This polluted air can be highly damaging to peoples
lungs and so people have been asked to remain indoors, schools are closed and where possible people are
working from home.
Evaluate the statement that Diwali festivities should take place regardless of the consequences to peoples
health. Make links to ethics and the economy.

3. Name 3 CV
5. The scientists hypothesized that as the mass increased the
Volume of carbon dioxide would increase.
Discuss the validity of their hypothesis
7. Suggest how the reliability of data could be improved

that could be made.
