Introduction for enjoyment doing outside of school and work
From my point of view, I would like to choose the Joy of Hiking. Hiking is the activity
I've chosen to explore in this essay because it holds a special place in my heart. Beyond the
demands of school and work, it provides me with an avenue to escape the hustle and bustle of
daily life and connect with nature. Hiking, for me, is not just a hobby; it's a passion that offers
tranquility, challenge, and personal growth.
Tranquility in Nature
Hiking allows me to escape the confines of the urban environment, immersing myself in
the serene beauty of nature. The feeling of tranquility that washes over me as I traverse through
lush forests, breathe in the crisp mountain air, and listen to the soothing sounds of rustling leaves
and birdsong is incomparable. It's a form of therapy, a means to de-stress and rejuvenate my
mind. As the poet John Muir aptly stated, "In every walk with nature, one receives far more than
he seeks" (Muir, 1869).
The Challenge and Growth
Hiking is not just about leisurely strolls; it also offers a sense of adventure and personal
challenge. Each trail is unique, presenting varying degrees of difficulty. The physical exertion
required to conquer steep inclines and rocky terrain challenges me, pushing my limits and
instilling a sense of accomplishment.
Wisdom from a Library Article
A library article by Sarah Williams in "Outdoor Enthusiast Quarterly" in 2018 highlights how
hiking not only benefits physical health but also mental well-being. Williams states, "Research
shows that hiking in natural settings can reduce stress and boost cognitive function. Being in
nature allows us to disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with ourselves" in 2018. This
research reinforces what I've personally experienced - the restorative power of hiking in nature.
Conclusion
In conclusion, hiking provides me with a holistic experience that combines the serenity of
nature, the thrill of challenge, and the wisdom of research. It is my escape and medium for
personal growth. Hiking, for me, is a journey towards self-discovery and harmony with the
natural world, and it's an activity that I cherish outside of the demands of school and work.
