Lab Write up: minimum of 5 sentences EXCEPT FOR OBJECTIVE.
Title: Mock Castration Bull Calf.
Objective: Properly castrate bull calf.
Materials Needed: Packing peanuts, balloons, rubber bands, grape jelly,
scissors
Procedure: Firstly, the rubber bands required a cut in half, separating it
into two pieces. Then, the tip of each balloon was snipped. After that, a
packing peanut was inserted into each balloon opening. Each rubber band
(vas deferens) then was tied around the opening in each balloon. The
testes (balloons) were put into one big balloon (scrotum) with a piece of
the vas deferens emerged. The scrotum was filled with grape jelly (blood,)
then tied. A hole was then cut and each teste was pulled through.
Observations: 1) The jelly was extremely messy. 2) Each teste was able
to be squeezed through the hole. 3) Scissors are pretty dull. 4) The first
incision made a big mess. 5) The jelly stank. Discussion: Nothing quite
went wrong, it seemed simple. I was able to pull the testicles through the
incision made. I was also able to assist with cutting the vas deferens after
pulling the testicles out. If I was in a position where I’d need to conduct
this process on a live animal, I believe I’d be able to do it. I would
definitely just need gloves and light.
