THE GUNPOWDER PLOT As James I was a Protestant many Catholics were disappointed that they were forced to go to Angelican churches. Faced with this situation, the Catholics decided to rebel against the king by making a plan for his execution and for his daughter Elizabeth to come to power to rule the country in a Catholic way. The plan they devised was to blow up the House of Lords on the day of the meeting. The ringleader of this whole plan was Robert Catesby. Since everything was going according to plan, they "rented" a spot that led directly below the House of Lords. But when they least expected it, everything was ruined when Lord Monteagle sent a letter to the king telling him everything that the Catholics were planning to do against him and immediately sent the letter to the king to avoid the tragedy. As soon as the king found out, they prepared everything so that the plan would not happen. When all the materials were ready, Guy Fawkes was waiting but they arrested him because they already knew they were going to perform that night. Guy Fakes was tortured until the king got all the information he wanted and the information needed to catch the rest of the Catholics who also tried to kill him. When the king found out who they were he went directly to hear them and killed them all. Since then, whenever it's November 5th, they celebrate that nothing happened, and they celebrate with fireworks... Even in some parts of the country, they create a statue of Guy Fawkes and then burn it. Esot is celebrated to remember history.
