GUIDANCE FOR ANTHROPOMETRIC MEASUREMENTS
1. HEIGHT MEASUREMENT (centimetre)
Steps to follow
1. First, find a flat, uncarpeted section of floor and a flat section of wall.
2. Take off your shoes and remove braids, headbands, or anything else on your head that
may get in the way of an accurate measurement.
3. Stand with your feet flat on the floor with your heels against the corner where the wall
and floor meet. Make sure your head, shoulders, and buttocks are touching the
wall.
4. Stand up straight with your eyes looking straight ahead. Your line of sight and chin
should be parallel to the floor.
5. Have someone place a flat object (like a ruler) on top of your head, keeping it at a
right angle to the wall.
6. Lightly mark the wall with a pencil.
7. Use a tape to measure the distance from the floor to the mark on the wall.
Measure and enter the height in centimeters (1 feet = approx 30 centimetres; 1inch =
2.5 centimetres; Eg if height is 5 6", it is = 5feet * 30 = 150 cm;
6 inch*2.5= 15
cm;
150 +15 = 165 cm).
2. WEIGHT MEASUREMENT (kilogram)
Steps to follow
1.
2.
3.
4.
Use a digital scale and place the scale on a firm flooring.
Remove shoes and heavy clothing, such as sweaters.
Stand with both feet in the center of the scale.
Record the weight and round it off to the nearest whole number.
Measure and enter the weight in kilograms.
3. WAIST CIRCUMFERENCE MEASUREMENT (centimetre):
Steps to follow
1.
2.
3.
4.
Stand and place a tape measure around your middle, just above your hipbones.
Make sure tape is horizontal around the waist.
Keep the tape snug around the waist, but not compressing the skin.
Measure your waist just after you breathe out.
Measure and enter the waist circumference in centimeters (1inch = 2.5 centimetres; Eg., if
pant waist size is 36; waist circumference is 36X2.5=90cm).
4. HIP CIRCUMFERENCE MEASUREMENT(centimetre):
Steps to follow
1. Stand straight and place a tape around the widest part of your hips and buttocks.
2. Make sure tape is horizontal.
3. Keep the tape snug around the waist, but not compressing the skin.
Measure and enter the hip circumference in centimeters (1inch = 2.5 centimetres) .
5. Neck Collar Size (in centimetre)
1. Place the measuring tape around the neck at the height where the collar would normally
rest.
2.Do not crane your neck out or squeeze your chin down.
3.The tape should be resting lightly on the skin, not squeezing it. Dont pull too tightly, just
enough for true measurement.
4. Hold one finger under the tape measure.
5. Make sure the tape is level and not being held at an angle.
Measure and enter in centimeters (1inch = 2.5 centimetres)
