ANSWERS TO FINAL TEST
G
Accept all logical and grammatically correct answers.
Possible points for inclusion:
1. Yes. I think he was a good friend. He helped him marry Juliet and then, when there were more
problems, he tried to find a solution. His intentions were always to find a way for the two young
people to be together. / No. Friar Laurence wasn’t a good friend to Romeo. Although he tried to
help Romeo be with Juliet, perhaps this wasn’t the best thing for the couple. He encouraged
them to disobey their families and instead of making things better, he made them much worse.
His actions resulted in the deaths of the two young people.
2. No, he didn’t. First, Juliet’s nurse went against him and helped Juliet meet Romeo at Friar
Laurence’s cell. Then Juliet married Romeo in secret. After that Lord Capulet told Juliet that
she was going to marry Paris, but she refused to do it. Later, she told him that she would marry
Paris. But even when he thought Juliet was obeying him, she was planning to stop her marriage
to Paris.
3. Yes, because everybody wants to think that somebody will love them enough to do anything for
them. Also, when things go wrong for the couple, the reader is drawn into the story and feels
heart broken. People love to see young people in love. / No, because it isn’t really about love. It
is a tragedy. These two people lose their lives because of a tragic series of mistakes and bad
decisions. Romeo made a bad decision to fight Tybalt, Friar John failed to reach Mantua and
tell Romeo of the plan. And then, Romeo thought Juliet was dead and took the poison, minutes
before Juliet woke up.
