MIXING EQ CHEAT SHEET This is a cheat sheet guide to give you some pointers on where you can cut and boost areas in specific track to help them in the mix with your EQs. Use it as a guide to help you with mixing the different types of tracks INSTRUMENT EQ CUT EQ BOOST Kick 150-300Hz - to remove muddiness 700-900hz – extra resonance not needed in sound 50-70Hz – for enhancing the low end 2500hz-4000hz – enhance the attack of the kick 8khz – to enhance the click of the kick Snare 500 – 700Hz – remove resonance of snare 200hz – improve low end 2500hz - increase midrange attack 8kHz – enhance high mids of snare High Toms 150 – 250hz – remove muddiness 700-1000hz – remove resonance of sound 120 – 200Hz – enhance low end 4500Hz – improve the attack 8000Hz, enhance the high mids of the attack Low Toms 150 – 250hz – remove muddiness 700-1000hz – remove resonance of sound 70 – 100Hz – improve low end. 4500Hz – improve the attack 8000Hz, enhance the high mids of the attack INSTRUMENT EQ CUT EQ BOOST Overheads 400- 700Hz – remove resonant sounds 10Khz, High pass shelf – remove harshness of sound 12kHz shelf, for extra high-end sparkle Room Mics 150-300Hz – remove muddiness 8Khz, High pass shelf – remove harshness of sound 80Hz – enhance low end 5-7,5kHz – for extra presence Bass High Pass – above 4000hz 50-80Hz – improve low end 500 – 1000Hz, enhance attack of bass Clean Guitars 250 – 600Hz – remove muddiness 1-2kHz – to help cut through in mix. 8-11kHz – for extra brightness INSTRUMENT EQ CUT EQ BOOST Distorted Guitars Low Shelf 90-150Hz High Shelf above 12kHz – remove harshness 250-400Hz, remove muddiness 1,5kHz – to help cut through in mix. 2.5Khz – extra Attack 5-8kHz – for extra brightness Vocals Anything below 150Hz – remove unwanted low content 1-2,5kHz – more attack to vocals 8kHz – more brightness to sound 12-14kHz – for more airy sound Piano 500-1000Hz – remove resonant sounds 100-200Hz – more low end 3000Hz – add Presence Synths 200-400Hz – remove resonant sounds. Plus muddiness of sounds 400 - 600Hz – adds thickness 1-2Khz – Add more Attack to synths 3-4kHz – adds extra presence
