Panel Discussion Muzaina, Eishal, Aiza, Zimmal, Fatima, Warisha, Junaid, Subhaan INTRODUCTION Eishal: Good evening everyone. I'm Eishal Munir from IG2 and I'm here with my friends today to hold a panel discussion on some topics we think are important in the lives of students today. Let's start with an introduction from my panel members. Members: [introduce themselves] CAREER COUNSELLING Eishal: Let's start our panel discussion with the topic of career counseling as career counselling is a crucial part in the lives of students and makes us aware of what our future is, what it holds and what we can do to shape it. Subhaan: I think that every student should have a someone to guide them for choosing the right path especially in IG’s they can go to their parents, teachers and even tutors. There should always be someone in their life to help them in these types of situations. Eishal: yep, because knowing the difference between guiding and pressurizing a student is so important for a parent to make sure a student doesn't feel that stress. Aiza: Guidance is important, but whoever is guiding you should know the difference between guiding you and indirectly forcing you into something. Especially now, when despite everything, our youth is still pressurized into gender norms and societal rules: Girls being conditioned into joining medical fields and Boys, engineering fields. We must remember that the decisions these children make will forever be with them and influence them in many ways. Wareesha: Selecting a major field can be a challenging and frustrating process. As a result, students get tangled in intense emotions, frustration, and even anxiety. Students are being traumatized and depressed as they cannot get what they want. Eishal: Do you think that society provide us with the resources to pursue the subject we like? Junaid: Even though’ if parents are supporting their children, the main obstacle or the problem in the way of students & parents while choosing fields like psychology, sports, & arts etc.; apart from those 3 main conventional fields, is that most of the educational departments whether schools or colleges don’t provide the facilities and faculty for those electives-subs. Therefore, it’ s to say that even if parents are supporting their children with no external pressure, the students are indirectly forced to choose their electives etc. from those traditional old fields which nowadays educational departments only offer. Subhaan: If your child has a interest in any activities other then the main three, the parents should take the initiative and enroll their child in after school activities. For example if your child has an interest in sport like football, tennis and badminton those activities will cater to their needs. ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE Zimmal: I, as a C.S student find the field of C.S really fascinating. Coding is also a part of C.S, It's an interesting and very useful skill. Its present everywhere from our homes to our offices and many other places. especially in recent years when coders have really showcased their skills by introducing A.I (Artificial intelligence). A.I has really changed coding's entire landscape. and it has many benefits. Eishal: AI is a really interesting topic and I think it has a pretty big influence on students' lives, right? though I guess it's not necessary that the effects are good. Muzaina: AI is a new field, with a really broad future, if we think about it. It will always need constant research and new developments from fresh ideas which could be immensely beneficial for students of our generation. This in turn would have a direct impact in our lives which would see huge technological advancements that may currently be unimaginable. Fatima: Yes, but everything with advantages also has its disadvantages. AI plays a big role in job displacement. Every simple but important task is being replaced by AI due to its accuracy. So, a lot of people are losing their jobs as a result, and an economic problem persists. Other than that, students are now relying on AI, like ChatGPT, for homework and other tasks which reduces students’ ability to think creatively, and they can't recognize skills within themselves. Muzaina: You know, it’s only about time the law and government start catching up and certain breaches become illegal. But, until then, I agree it's quite dangerous. Fatima: And, due to its advancement, some people are using it in an improper way to earn money, often modifying pictures and threatening them. Also impersonating people and making them look bad even if they are innocent. Eishal: That's a great point you put out there, AI is able to now put its influence in media too. How do you think media affects students today? MEDIA Wareesha: In today's digital age, false information can easily be shared and spread, leading to confusion and misinterpretation among the public. As media becomes more digital and interconnected, there are increasing concerns about privacy and the protection of personal information. Aiza: I agree! but AI has also led to their being new forms of entertainment with content creation and live translations becoming so accessible. Many companies use AI to make Data-Driven decision making as well, so we have that influence. Zimmal: Another thing is that paparazzi invades celebrities' privacy for the latest gossip and sometimes go as far as stalking them. This becomes a real issue because certain people can use this information against them. False gossip is also a very common occurrence, these rumors can affect peoples’ reputation greatly to the point of hopelessness. Embarrassing pictures and private moments made public are the things the media feeds on. Eishal: In conclusion, our panel today provided a rich exploration of career counseling, artificial intelligence, and media's impact. Valuable insights emerged, offering perspectives on navigating careers, addressing AI's transformative potential, and highlighting challenges posed by media and paparazzi. The dialogue emphasized the need for ethical considerations in our evolving landscape. I hope this discussion has been as engaging for you as it has been for me, prompting reflection on the dynamic interplay of these topics in our lives. Thank you to our panelists and the audience for your participation.
