Geotechnical Investigation Offer for Construction of New SWG Building offer No. GIo-040618-1-Rev 00 Date: 4/6/2018 CONSTRUCTION OF NEW SWG BUILDING Offer for Conducting Geotechnical Investigation Offer No. GIO-040618-1 Prepared for HIDROMONTAZA Company Prepared by Alia Technical and Engineering Consulting Hay Alandulus, Libya Phone: +218914216284 Fax +218217309535 wafik@alia.ly www.alia.ly 0 Geotechnical Investigation Offer for Construction of New SWG Building offer No. GIo-040618-1-Rev 00 Date: 4/6/2018 1. GENERAL This document has been prepared as a financial offer for geotechnical investigation to be undertaken for Construction of New SWG Building. This offer was prepared up on request of HIDROMONTAZA Company. It is understood that the project consists of a concrete-framed building with a total footprint are of 30 x 15 m, "estimated to be placed on a raft foundation" plus three transformers resting on a pad foundation with an area of 30 x 8m. A geotechnical investigation of the project site will be carried out in order to characterize the materials and conditions which will be encountered during the construction and operation of the project, their nature, variability, extent and any special requirements to be observed. The site investigation will be carried out in accordance with ASTM and BS 5930 standards. Alia will be responsible for the site investigation, laboratory testing, and preparation of factual and interpretative report. 2. SITE INVESTIGATION 2.1. SETTING OUT Prior to commencement of investigation, location of boreholes will be marked on site by the Alia’s surveyors using hand GPS and agreed with the client’s engineer. 2.2. EXPLORATION POINTS LOCATIONS Boreholes will be located within a 0.25 m radius of the positions shown on submitted drawing, unless otherwise agreed with the Client, (this tolerance in position is intended to allow for any local obstruction). 2.3. MINIMUM NUMBER, LOCATION AND DEPTH OF EXPLORATION POINTS 2 boreholes will be located within the area of the concrete-framed building and 1 borehole at the area of the transformer. The boreholes will be taken to a maximum depth of 8 m below the existing ground level. The boreholes will be advanced using rotary rig equipped with standard hummer in order to carry out SPT test. The rock strata will be cored using double-tube core barrel NQ size. Pentonite-mud will be used during the drilling in order to avoid water loss. SAMPLING REQUIREMENTS Split spoon samples will be obtained at 1.0 m intervals or when changes in material are encountered. Split spoon samples are generally “disturbed” when obtained and thus are not suitable for laboratory determination of strength or consolidation parameters. Undisturbed Shelby tube samples will be obtained at 1.5 m intervals when working with cohesive soils. For cohesive soil greater than 10 m in depth, Shelby tube sample intervals can be increased to 3 m. Split spoon samples must be carefully sealed in plastic bags and placed in jars before being sent to the laboratory for analysis. Shelby tube samples must be sealed and stored upright in a shockproof container for transportation to the laboratory. 1 Geotechnical Investigation Offer for Construction of New SWG Building offer No. GIo-040618-1-Rev 00 Date: 4/6/2018 Standard penetration test (SPT) data will be recorded for each boring in accordance with ASTM D 1586 and placed in the drill log. The drill crew will also continuously perform a rough visual analysis of soil samples and record their observations in the drill log. The water level in each borehole will be recorded along with data on when the observation was made. An erroneous indication of water level may result when water is used as a drilling fluid and adequate time is not allowed after hole completion for the water level to stabilize. In clay soils, one week or more is required before an accurate reading can be obtained. The drilling work and sampling will comply with the following ASTM standards: • • • • • • • • D1452. D1586: D1587: D2113: D2487: D2488. D4220: D5079: Soil Investigation and Sampling by Augers Penetration Test and Split Barrel Sampling of Soil. Thin Wall Tube Sampling of Soils. Diamond Core Drilling for Site Investigation. Classification of Soils for Engineering Purposes. Description and Classification of Soils (Visual-Manual Procedure) Preserving and Transporting Soil Samples. Preserving and Transporting Rock Core Samples. 3. LABORATORY TESTING As a minimum, the laboratory tests shall show the following information: • • • • • • • • • • Moisture content. (ASTM D2216) Soil grain size distribution. (ASTM D422) Atterberg limits. (ASTM D4318) Soil chemical analysis. (BS 1377-3) Direct shear test if required. (ASTM D3080) One-dimensional consolidation test for cohesive soil (ASTM D 2435) Collapse potential test for cohesive soil (ASTM D 2435 or ASTM D 4546). One-dimensional swell test for cohesive soil (ASTM D 4546) Rock point load. (ASTM D 5731) Unconfined compressive strength of rock core (ASTM D7012) The estimated number of tests is shown in the table 2. The actual quantities will depend on the actual ground condition met on site. 4. GEOTECHNICAL REPORTING The geotechnical engineering report, needed for the detail engineering phase, shall be indicated the following data about subsurface conditions, design parameters and foundations recommendations: • An introduction to describe the project to which the report applies, to the extent that it has been defined. The introduction shall also include description of the existing site, including the local geology, surficial features and existing facilities in the immediate 2 Geotechnical Investigation Offer for Construction of New SWG Building offer No. GIo-040618-1-Rev 00 Date: 4/6/2018 • • • • • • • • • • • • • • vicinity of the site A general description of the subsurface investigation, including the sampling methods and number and type of samples and in-situ/laboratory testing, including corrosion testing. Existing soil borings and associated laboratory test results shall also be incorporated into the report A description of subsurface conditions including soil and bedrock stratification, soil and rock type, groundwater conditions, depth of bedrock, and any unusual conditions such as presence of loose soils, voids, perched water or contaminated soil Final typed boring logs and laboratory test results signed by the geotechnical firm’s professional engineer Photographs of the on-site drilling equipment, soil and rock sample collection, and rock cores Groundwater level at the time of drilling and daily reading of observation wells during site investigation Recommend foundation type if necessary (i.e., shallow footings versus mat foundations or piles) Allowable bearing capacity for footings, raft foundations or pile foundation Minimum depth of embedment of shallow foundations and corresponding allowable bearing capacity Estimate of foundation settlement Coefficient of subgrade reaction for slab on grade and mat foundations (Derived from SPT) Evaluation of liquefaction potential of loose soils below groundwater table. Site Category for seismic design Recommendations for reuse of on-site soils Recommendations on corrosion potential of soil and groundwater on concrete and steel and remedial measures. 3 Geotechnical Investigation Offer for Construction of New SWG Building offer No. GIo-040618-1-Rev 00 Date: 4/6/2018 5.
