How to Use the Color by Number Addition Game
This game is a ‘print and go’ game. Just print the black and white copy of the game on paper and it is ready for
students. The game is played by 2 players. They require a paper clip and pencil for the spinner. They also require
colored pencils or colored markers in the colors on the key for the game.
How to Use the Spinner
• Put the paper clip in the center of the spinner.
• Place the point of the pencil on the center of the spinner.
• Move the end of the paper clip so it rests against the pencil point and spin!
• The fact that the other end of the paper clip lands on is the fact that the player has spun.
• If students haven’t used this method before, it may be necessary to demonstrate how it is done before they play.

Helpful Hints for Playing the Game
White Spaces - Explain to students that some spaces have no number in them. These are meant to remain
white.
Quick and Neat - It may help to explain to students, that they should be coloring quickly but neatly when they
have their turn. If students color slowly the game can go on for too long.
Length of Game - If students take too long to complete a game, it can be played over 2 sessions. The game can
be put away and then continued the next day or when students have spare time.
Answer Key - An answer key has been provided if you would like to use it. The answers are on the spinner in
red. Each player can refer to it to check the answer given by the other player. It can also be used so students
can compare their finished game with the colored version on the answer key.
Missing Colors - If players don’t have a color that they require, they can substitute with a different color. Have the
students use the new color to color over the color word in the key to indicate the substitution.
Bonus Activity Sheet
The Color by Number Activity Sheet on page 6 is an activity for individuals. This can be used
independently by students either before playing the game or after.
