COLLEGE OF ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES BS NURSING Name: Jayona, Kristel Charisse R. Year Level and Section: BSN-2B Date: _____________ Score: ____________ Laboratory Activity 3 FOOD BASED DIETARY GUIDELINES I. Introduction Each country developed its own FBDG; however, the process was coordinated among the countries. Similarities in cultures, language, agricultural production, trade, food consumption patterns, and incidence of chronic disease, as well as their proximity, made this approach feasible. The joint planning allowed nutritionists from the 4 countries to meet periodically and share experiences, knowledge, and information. The Philippines uses the daily nutritional guide pyramid and has developed pyramids for different population groups. The pyramid is divided into levels of recommended consumption. Messages about exercise and personal and environmental hygiene serve as support messages for the pyramid. Meanwhile, the healthy food plate for Filipino adults (Pinggang Pinoy) completes the messages of the pyramid by showing adequate distribution of nutritious foods in a meal. Lastly, the Nutritional Guidelines for Filipinos (NGF) is a set of dietary guidelines based on the eating pattern, lifestyle, and health status of Filipinos. The NGF contains all the nutrition messages to healthy living for all age groups from infants to adults, pregnant and lactating women, and the elderly. II. III.
