Maternity Care Coalition (MCC) is a community-based nonprofit organization serving Southeastern PA with four decades of commitment to improving maternal and child health and early care and education. To achieve a more equitable and just future, we work at the client, community, and policy levels. Our direct service programs have assisted close to 150,000 families across the region and have demonstrated considerable expertise working with high-risk individuals with histories that include trauma, perinatal depression, substance use, interpersonal violence, and criminal justice involvement. MCC has a comprehensive approach that includes a research and evaluation team that conducts research on issues related to maternal and child health and early learning, and a public policy program that advocates at the local, state, and national levels. MCC is looking for a Public Health graduate student with a strong background in data to contribute to the evaluation of our home visiting programs. Our program evaluation is based on the Precision Home Visiting Paradigm: What works for whom and how? Skills • • • • • Proficiency working with Stata, R, or similar program Variable recoding and missing values analysis Understanding of basic statistics such as t-tests, correlation, simple linear regression, logistic regression; and non-parametric statistics Independently managing a data project Commitment to community-based research Specific example A current student is addressing the following research questions in one of our programs, to assess which (or whether) clients benefit from the service: 1. Is there an association between client risk factors and depression risk score? 2. Is there an association between race and depression risk score? This project requires analysis of existing administrative data on individual depression risk scores, risk factors, and the creation of a composite risk factor variable.
