Kasi merong Photo by Maria Isabelle S. Salvaleon students na may poor reading habits, ito ay para ma encourage sila na magbasa ng magbasa." Ms. Analissa Apiado said, a librarian of LHS. Students saw the sustainability and importance of it on the campus, they had tried reading in the Little Free Library in their free time and they found it convenient because of the short distance between their classrooms. “Ito po ay convenient para sa amin dahil malapit nga lang siya sa mga classrooms namin at comfy magbasa dito even though medyo maingay nga lang.” Kristina Cassandra Galon, a Grade 9 student said. The student also talked about how the book helps her learn new things, and with this new Little Free Library space, she added that there is another space for the students to read when the main library is unavailable. "Syempre book is a valuable thing for me. It makes me learn new things and understand what life means, tsaka nagpapalawak rin ito ng imagination lalo na kapag fictions kaya it's a win-win HAHAHA, And of course, book is like our knowledge naman." Kristina said. "Para sa akin, ito ay helpful especially for us students na mahilig magbasa and tuwing sarado yung main library we can still read and learn in this free space." she added. The librarian said that the Little Free Library also accepts donations of books to have more materials to learn that students need in their studies, the students can also take the books and study them at their homes but they need to return them back after use for the other students to use. "Pwede mag-stay doon at magbasa, then pwede rin kayo doon magdonate ng mga books at uwiin yung mga books, but be sure na ibabalik din," Ms. Apiado said. The librarian also shared its plan to expand the Little Free Library space in every building that LHS has to encourage and lessen the poor reading habits on the campus, also for better convenience for the students. “Dapat every building meron tayong ganyan (Little Free Library), so yung sa Simon building palang yung nauunang gawin.” Ms. Apiado said. The campus librarian also said that when the library is full of students, they can stay in the Little Free Library which is so functional for the library and the campus. By planting onions using their roots in our backyards, we can produce onions. Buy an onion with a root that costs a very affordable price, plant it in a pot or in a lot and take care of it. It takes days and months but it's worth the wait because we don’t know when this onion crisis will end. With this crisis, our school could do planting programs for onions and other vegetables that were affected by the high inflation. Doing this by having a garden in Lagro High School can sustain the needs of ingredients of the TVL and Cookery students. Other than the TVL and Cookery students, canteens are also affected by how onions are so pricey and it's an important ingredient for them. What the school should do is by having a planting project or program for the benefit of the school and students, not only onions can be planted but also other vegetables that can sustain the needs of ingredients in the canteen and students. Making this program could lessen the expenses of the students in buying ingredients in this time of high price and shortage. Even the canteen can harvest the planted vegetables, so they can use it in making their menu for the students. Also, planting vegetables in the garden of the school can make the school more environmentally friendly, and relaxing to study in and it can also be a social attraction for the school. As another solution, we can also lessen our consumption use in using onions. We won’t die if we do not have onions in our dishes. There are many alternatives to use to spice up our food that is more affordable than onions and it would still taste better. There are already powdered condiments such as garlic, onions, pepper and etc., in the market that is more affordable, and have the same taste as onions. It would be good if we had a leader who can supervise this problem other than the president. It’s not only onions that have a high price right now, even the affordable egg slowly became expensive. We’re really slowly turning to the “Golden Era” and poverty is still there and it still doesn’t change. Now that some basic goods are slowly turning to have a high value, it will be harder for people to buy their basic needs to live. While it's still early, let's make action and do these solutions to overcome our problem and make the Philippines not go into hunger and poverty again. Let's help each other and support the government with the right decisions, let's all unite. The “Golden Era” many people say this phrase when Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. won as president. As the year started, Golden Era really happened. The value of everything went up high like gold. The red and white onion whose price before is 80Php-120Php per kilogram went up higher than the price of the meat per kilogram that is 220Php-500Php, now the value of the onion is 600Php according to the Department of Agriculture. We can see the big difference between the price of onion before and now, it quintuples the price before. Onion is a very essential ingredient in every Filipino cuisine. Normally the Philippines consume about 17, 000 metric tons of onions in a month, however, this month there are only 5,775 tons to deliver based on the Agriculture Department’s Monitoring of Manila Area Market Price, that’s why nowadays we can’t even see or taste a piece of onion in our meals. People would say you are rich if you have a kilo of onions in your kitchen. We can conclude that other than inflation, climate change and smuggling is the other reason why we have a shortage of onions in our country. It would be hard for us Filipino, knowing that onion is the main spice in our dishes. Poverty is still there and now that the value of everything went up high, poor families can’t easily afford to buy these basic needs in their everyday life. Inflation changes daily, mainly because many situations happen every day that can affect the economy's growth. Of course, onion is affected by this inflation that resulted in a shortage of it. The price gets higher with how the typhoons hit the country last year, which did not help at all, it only caused tens of billions of pesos worth of crops to be destroyed by the typhoons. With the country being at risk for rising temperatures and increasing rainfall that caused several tropical storms, which interfere with crop growth are the reason why there is a shortage of onions and delaying importation. With the shortage of onions in the Philippines, importing from other countries is supported by the government, however, there are concerns that importing onions can affect the local onion farmers because of the lack of support from the government. The chances of onions going to waste especially if it’s imported by the local farmers is low because of the fact that sellers might just lower the price than selling nothing. Having this issue still not resolved can change the demand, with the shortage of onions causing the need for import in other countries such as China and other Southeast Asian countries. Calingasan a municipal agriculturist once said that “They should have computed the supply and demand for onions as the current importation plan is going to kill them”. Sellers might be the most affected after all when the time the importation continues. The consumers might not buy from them especially if the onions are imported from local farmers. The onions can go to waste, however, sellers might not have a choice but to drop the price themselves then the onions just go to waste and they have nothing to earn. Smuggling and hoarding onions is another reason for this onion crisis, flight attendants and OFWs are suspected to smuggle kilos of onions and fruits from the Middle East by Philippine Airlines. We can’t blame them, since they don’t have any other option to buy onions in our country at a very affordable price, but hoarding is another way around. It’s a selfish act to hoard in the midst of a crisis, it makes the issue to be more problematic, and it won’t make them rich if they stock onions and hide them, then sell them after a price increase. Lera Chloe Therese Pangan Principal Feature Editor COURIER 1 February 2023 VOX POPULI How long do you think it will take for onions' price to go back to normal or at reachable price? Why? Cañarejo, Matt Grade 12 - STEM (Lantican) I've thought, it maybe will take about 3-4 weeks from now for onion' prices to go down for a more reasonable and reachable price. This is because the government imported from other countries to try to solve or at least do something to the increasing price of onions and that harvesting season is about to come. Santos, Sam Grade 11 - ABM (Delgado) This current inflation of onions in the market is said to be a cause of the Department of Agriculture's failure to make accurate supply projections despite price hike reports from last year. If the Department of Agriculture would be responsible for this and take into account that it is continuously becoming a challenge to farmers and consumers, I will only hope that the price of onions would be more affordable by a quarter of the year. Sarmiento, Paula Jane Malijan Grade 10 - Platinum I am unable to predict when onion prices would get lower or back to its regular price because our country's increasing inflation rate makes it uncertain. Other materials used in plantations are priced excessively due to a domino effect of inflation. We still need a specific plan from economists or other responsible officials for onions to return to their usual price, therefore it is possible that the price reduction of onions won't take place right now. Garma, Zyril Trish Grade 9 - Diamond As a 9th-grade student, honestly I have no idea how long it will take for onion's price to be back to normal or at a reachable price, so who knows? Maybe onions will get back to a cheaper price when harvesting season comes. Ocampo, Zuriel Grade 8 - Narra When the weather isn't hard on the farms. Because once it rains, the effort of farmers will double, and the quality of onions, once it gets wet, will lower. So in conclusion, it may be when it's summer because that's when most plants bloom to the fullest. Hirang Associate Graphic Editors the 5 COLUMN PAGE WEDNESDAY COURIER 1 Febuary 2023 Use your creative mind rather than complaining I used to think that learning ABC and 123 was the only thing I needed to do when I was younger, but now they've combined, which is hell for a teenager like me. I just want to live happily, to eat, to wake up and enjoy my life as a teenager; instead, I wake up and worry about what next schoolwork I have to do. They give us more assignments than time to rest, and I often wonder why I was born for this. Saturday was the only day I wanted to come because it felt like a great day to rest after five days in hell. On Sundays, I always imagine the hell days of schoolwork. Monday is the one I didn't want to come to because it's jam-packed with deadlines. I'd rather die early than do so much schoolwork. I was always running out of time for other activities, such as my hobbies. Consider how our ancient ancestors only ate, woke up, and did what they wanted, whereas we have so much schoolwork. Someone once said, "75 grades are all you need to pass, so why do I always put pressure on myself to do all of my schoolwork?" This makes me envious of them. We only have one life, so why do I waste my time doing schoolwork? Living in this complicated world is complicated. My father said, "Son, education is the key to your future," and my mother said, "It's better to be educated than to be ignorant," which is why I always study and do all my schoolwork, even if it's sometimes difficult; after all that, I realized what the point of all that schoolwork is, and that it prepares you for incoming hell schoolwork, such as essays. As a teenager of this generation, I have found that the more schoolwork that is assigned to us, the more students are lazy to complete it, causing them to be lazy to study and ignorant of other things. If we do not want to suffer in school, we must begin with ourselves. We must practice time management, hard work, patience, discipline, and the use of our creative minds. By: Ivan Kevin F. Directo We can't blame everything on DepEd and teachers; we must first look to ourselves to see what we are doing to complete all of our schoolwork. Many students are currently complaining rather than acting to help themselves. DepEd or even teachers should be aware of how students feel and their limitations; I hope they do something to make students happy while studying. Furthermore, many adults compare themselves to this generation. They always said that when they were teenagers like me, they could do better, not realizing that they are one of the reasons why the current generation is like this, and some students are losing confidence as a result. Doing this column is also hell, and it has made me realize the value of our creative minds. Aside from that, I'm learning and want to learn more about the true meaning of reality. The Stinky Restrooms A Lagro High School student would like to speak out against what we believe needs to be improved in school, a measure that restricts free speech: the stinky restroom at LHS, which was not prioritized by the school administration. Because we are students, we require a clean environment, particularly in terms of hygiene. We are entitled to adequate school facilities. With all due respect, juniors yearn for the opportunity to speak about this issue due to the administration's low priority. The fact that the administration does not always consult the comfort rooms says a lot about the students' opinions, not to mention the muddy toilets. It's quite irritating. The floor is always very slippery when I use the comfort room during break time, each cubicle has no flush, and most of the time the water doesn't work. The toilet is clogged, and some of the faucets are broken. Other students have also complained about the filthiness of the restroom. The It's difficult to hold the door open while urinating because there are no doorknobs. It is difficult to use the restroom if the faucets and toilet flush are not working properly. There isn't any water. We understand that it is a public cr and that the facilities inside the restroom are not comfortable or complete, but we are hopeful that the cleanliness will improve. Maintain each cubicle so that every student feels at ease using it. Not to mention the cubicles in the men's restroom, where there is no proper placement of each toilet bowl; there are no even doors or anything that will separate the bowl; and anyone passing by in their car will see them urinating or whatever they're doing. It's always the girls' bathroom that gets the most attention. Everyone deserves to be clean and well-maintained, and there should be no favoritism. I'm also aware that it's not just the administration's fault; it's also the fault of the students who use it. We should also be cautious about what we do inside Trisha Nicole R. Chacon the restroom because there isn't always someone there to clean it. We must learn about basic sanitation and hygiene in order to keep the restroom clean and to relieve the janitor/janitor who checks each cubicle. Many students stayed inside the restroom to take pictures, selfies, and other things; this is not appropriate because it is a restroom, not a photo booth. In addition, some students use restrooms to cheat in their exams. They will tell their teacher that they need to use the restroom, but they will simply use the opportunity to search for answers in their tasks and activities. What is the significance of all of this? These are a few of the reasons. The first is that, as individuals with free speech rights, we want to have a spotless comfort room because it is very difficult for us to use each cubicle because of the slippery floor. It is also provided that cleanliness and proper hygiene for students to use should be very common in every school. Second, students with diarrheal infections may miss class due to filthy restrooms. Proper cleanliness of the comfort rooms and each cubicle can aid in the prevention of the spread of many diseases and parasites, such as urinary tract infections (UTIs), which can be contracted by simply sitting on a toilet seat. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, we or students must learn the fundamentals of maintaining the cleanliness of the restroom, whether it is small or large. The cleanliness of a location is independent of its size. It is determined by how people use and treat it. Everyone should be able to use the comfort rooms. We'd appreciate it if you could pay attention to this and make some small progress toward keeping things clean. Small changes in the restroom, such as fixing the faucets, the clogged toilet, the water, and some rules and regulations that everyone should follow, can also help to improve. I'm sharing this experience with everyone so they can understand what should be prioritized in school, how school funds can be used to improve restrooms, and how we can help as students in keeping the environment clean, especially when it comes to hygiene, even in small ways. Schools Apple of the Eye Consider how favoritism operates in academies, not just for educators but for the entire school, such as unfair treatment, prioritizing students based on their grades, teachers giving more attention to one student while ignoring other students, and even invalidating students. Lower sections and said to be the problems of the school, while the higher sections are the faces of the school, from the students who I've just heard their voices on this issue, what we've been keeping for a long time these are what make school doubly an education. Being judged by grades lowers our self-esteem, causing us students to overwork and overwork to the detriment of our health. Instead, why not make us feel like we have worth by changing our grades and raising them rather than making us feel we are nothing, and also cheering us up when we are down is the most beneficial. We move on from our low grades and hope to achieve much higher grades in the future. Invalidating students through their sections should not be part of the system; we students simply need confidence, courage, and hope that we will be better than we are now; however, why treat us as trash? Every student's knowledge is not based on their sections; we are smart even without a title; attempting to make us come out and not be embarrassed by our section is the best way to have a good education and demonstrate our potential. Telling us that it isn't the section that is the issue is the best way for students to have the courage to pursue their personal goals rather than stifling them. Attention isn't a big deal for us students, but going overboard on giving all of your attention to only one or two students is wrong. It should be noted that there are more than two students in a classroom who need to be heard. Giving attention to all students is already a great help for their future because I guarantee that giving them attention like hearing all Your students' opinions can make them a better understanding of life what I mean is you can't live life if you don't keep questioning yourself making yourself wonder and giving opinion also listening precisely to others opinions, just a little attention is already a great help for everyone, even if you haven't been a great influence just a little attention is already a great help for everyone, The effects of this on students make them fear schools make them mentally ill and have bad health stressed out and depressed and this problem just gets worse as these issues continue schools are known to be our second home a cozy and comfortable home but feeling like left out, depressed, worthless, and more, the worst scenario here because of these issues it can be the cause for a student to commit suicide not knowing what they will do to this terrifying experience, this generation We students are fragile in comparison to adults, which is why schools are there to support our backs, making us resilient and ready for life, not to worsen our lives, doubting ourselves, and doubting their own decisions, there are many more issues of favoritism found but are not as famous or never been noticed but greatly affect students, why are schools still progressing on giving schools a great name and a great education but so careless on issue just because it will put a dirt on their name? To be honest, based on my own experience, I can share any opinion on my family and I'm hoping for someone to listen and understand me at school and I deeply appreciate it if someone ever did so, I will thank them from the bottom of my heart because it's just something that is so rare that just happened to me, so please, even if life takes you to your limit, please don't give up bhe. By: Jay-jay A. Corbo Golden Canteen Foods By: James Harvey G. Bacuetes Food in public canteens is only available to wealthy children because it is so expensive. For some, public schools are places where they can learn, study, and graduate despite their low income. They may be eligible for a scholarship if they are intelligent, hardworking, and diligent. Expensive canteen foods are something else entirely. The rice is only 25-40 pesos per bowl, and the kikiam, fishball, and kwek kwek, or orange eggs, are only 20 pesos per cup, and you aren't even full, and the 20-peso cheese stick is just a wrapper, and I can't even taste the cheese inside. The Cheese Stick is made up of 99% wrapper and 1% cheese. Let us reduce the canteen food prices. My pocket money is only 50 pesos, and I still owe 36 pesos in bus fares. So I only have 14 pesos left over. WHAT IN THE WORLD AM I GOING TO BUY FOR 14 PESOS? I can buy junk food, but it will not only leave me hungry, but it will also be unhealthy. So I'd rather pack my lunch before going to school than not eat. What's the point, after all? I'm going to pay 10 pesos for junk food that won't even fill me up or make me unhealthy. My stomach hurt so much, and I hadn't slept well since studying for the test. According to research, if you don't eat, you may experience hallucinations. That's what happened to me when I was hallucinating and almost fainting, but thankfully I didn't pass out during class. I just ate a lot when I got home and felt fine. Increased household income from more jobs and higher wages, combined with an increase in consumer spending, is one of the primary causes of inflation, as it boosts aggregate demand and allows businesses to raise the prices of their goods and services. When this occurs across a large number of industries and businesses, inflation rises. They don’t have enough money to sustain the family’s needs, especially education. That’s why we have free public schools so that in the future those same children that are in poverty once they graduate can help their families and sustain the needs of their future families and their current families. This inflation is in the way of their success I mean if their money is not enough, how can they concentrate if they have an empty stomach? If you lack nutrients, it will affect your blood flow and if your brain doesn’t get enough blood flow it will slow down. These problems are connected it’s called a chain reaction. These canteen foods are your only resort if you forgot or don’t have enough money to buy groceries, but these prices are too high for an average public school. These prices for an average public school are way too expensive and generous. Some of the people in the public school can't even afford a simple meal. It's too dangerous to study without eating because you will lose your sense of focus and you will lose your concentration in your studies because of your gurgling stomach. the 6 COURIER FEATURE WEDNESDAY 1 FEBRUARY 2023 BY: SHERLYN B. You've walked a lot of roads only to find some methods to spin her head, but you're blind, so you've come up empty-handed. You were always caught lying to your mother about how reckless you were in scamming her since she is your home's cctv, which you were unaware of. Although I don't have a mother of my own, I'm going to demonstrate some of these 3 flawless tactics for tricking your mother that she doesn't even know about yet. The first thing you must do is to improve your appearance. If you are ugly in the beginning, I'm sincerely sorry but you have no chance. You must be attractive in your mother's eyes so that you appear and feel reliable on her. Second, Act like Nora Aunor, say things with emotion as if you just won an Oscar, and add teary eyes for additional dramatic effect as you appear like a young child who is pleading with an adult to buy you a toy, so that your mother would feel pity on you. The third and final piece of advice is really helpful; tell her you love her more than your crush and that she is the most stunning, gorgeous, and outstanding mother who have ever lived, that she deserves to have a child like you, as well as that she would eventually come to trust on the words you'll gonna say, of course she'll undoubtedly believe that and would agree since she is a dummy. Having younger siblings is one big explosion of fun and mess. As firstborns, we've all probably asked our parents for a baby when we were little. A playmate is what you wanted, which is why you asked for a little brother or sister in the first place. Admit it, you aren't prepared for all the endless whining that could break your eardrums into bits, plus they always carry the urge to distract and tease you randomly just to get what they want. Peeking at the bright side, younger siblings can also be very sweet and caring as they are the family's source of joy. They give off so much energy that it annoys you most of the time, though you don't have to worry that much. Remember, those young people get fooled as easily as pie. Here are three not-so-cruel ways to scam the young ones. First, you are having the time of your life eating your favorite food, becoming so selfish that you refuse to let your younger sibling have a taste when they ask for it. Brat! Be a little kinder and share it with them; Even though a fraudster will try to act, shyness will be lost just for money. That is the exact process for quickly becoming a millionaire. You will profit without a problem on that simple. You only need to follow those steps to succeed at scamming. Even if it's a fraud, it's simpler to make quick money than to seek for a solid job. Seem to be aware that after you have performed unfairly, there is an alternative, which is the suffering of the guilty If you mistreat the people like that, it will backfire on you. To be honest, I'd rather hang with them than hang out with groups of people who doesn't do anything in life other than sitting down playing mobile legends and finding love on the internet. Once and for all, Bida ang SaYawi for the best duo of every school existence. Whenever we talk about Jollibee, the first thing that comes to mind is that this is only a food chain, but not for millennials. Jollibee, for every student in class, these are the people who sponsored answers to those yawi people "kopya lang ang alam." Jolibees are also the teacher's pets that nakshies and mhiemas hate. A certain student took their test and did not know what to answer because they did not review the day before their science test. He panicked because he did not know what to write down. Suddenly, he took a peek at his classmate's paper who is known to be smart so that he can write down the right answers to the test and score an ace. Not all jollibees are entitled "bida-bida" but also "papansin," and they try to be the main topic, not just in the classroom but in the entire school. That's why mhiemas and nakshies hate them because Jollibees are the ones who get more attention and praise from others than mhiemas and nakshies. Meanwhile in the back of the classroom, there is a group of species that go to school without any knowledge about their lessons. They are like Luffy who can extend their necks just to peek into their classmates answers and ace the test. Even though the Yawi’s are like this, we can’t deny the fact that they always set the mood and makes everyone smile including the Jollibee’s sometimes. First, the cheaters in class. The classic move is to sneak a peek at the person next to you during a test. But why settle for just a peek when you can go all out and bring in a cheat sheet disguised as a "hand sanitizer" bottle? Just make sure to keep an eye out for the ever-vigilant Jollibees who just can't seem to mind their own business. Yawi's are the ones who always seem to have a "forgotten" homework excuse ready at all times. Jollibee's sometimes act as Grab drivers, who just can't seem to mind their own business. Sometimes, they would slither accompanying teachers and picking up from the first to fourth floors. in to your paper and get double vision without you noticing. Jollibee, are those students who are also humble, are you sure they're really humble? They always say that their scores are lower when they only have one mistake, literally just one mistake. Jollibee will always remind the teacher that there is an assignment, even if others have not done anything. What do we even expect? That is how Jollibees are: always reminding things that should be forgotten. JABEE'S DAILY ROUTINE "SUSUMBONG KO KAYONG LAHAT" Sometimes Jollibees are also overworked; it may seem like they are not, but you are totally wrong; they even make a fuss about the tiniest bit of dust, which you cannot even see even if you put your face so close to it. Though they don't really clean their house, that is what you call "pabibo," cleaning the classroom just so you will look diligent in front of the teacher, but clearly they cannot even clean their own house. Just how great that sounds. They always want something to do at school; they even write "noisy" even though they are the ones who are noisy. And if the other students do not obey her, Jollibee will cry, and other students will comfort her using a comb. Jollibees are crybabies; they don't want someone higher than themselves, "higher" just like the expectations that they get from their parents. In other words, Jollibees are the ones that can ruin the fun aka "Kill Joy" people. There's no fun in the classroom when you're with these people because all they do is blame here, blame there, blame everywhere. In a different lifetime, maybe Jollibee will be Mcdonald's, which are people who loves everyone and everything because of "Love ko 'to". the 8 COURIER FEATURE WEDNESDAY 1 FEBRUARY 2023 Sexual violence is a devastating epidemic in the Philippines, tearing apart the lives of countless women and leaving deep emotional scars that last a lifetime. One in five women in the Philippines will experience sexual violence in their lifetime, a staggering statistic that should shock and outrage us all. Despite the efforts of the government to combat this issue, with laws such as the Anti-Rape Law of 1997 and the AntiViolence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004, the problem persists. The root cause of this issue is a lack of education and awareness about sexual violence and consent, which leads to victim-blaming and a culture that turns a blind eye to the suffering of survivors. But we cannot simply sit idly by and allow this horrific abuse to continue. Organizations such as the Philippine Commission on Women and the Philippine Alliance Against Pornography are working tirelessly to educate the public and empower women to speak out against abuse. Hotlines and crisis centers have been set up to provide survivors with counseling and legal assistance, and programs are in place to provide medical care and financial assistance. But true change requires a complete overhaul of our legal system, to ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice and victims are protected. It requires a cultural shift, where we reject the objectification of women in the media and promote gender equality in all areas of life. BY: JOAQUIN LUIS A. BONIFACIO https://www.rappler.com/nation/266161-victim-blaming-why-survivorssexual-violence-not-come-forward/ The government, NGOs, and private sectors must come together to provide a safer and more inclusive environment for victims and their families, through safe houses, education and livelihood programs, and community-based approach to prevent and address sexual violence. We must recognize that sexual violence is not only a legal issue but also a public health issue, and that victims and survivors need medical, psychological, and social services to heal. We must involve men and boys in the prevention of sexual violence and promoting gender equality. The Philippines has committed itself to various international conventions and agreements, such as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action. It is time for the Philippines to live up to these commitments and take bold and decisive action to put an end to sexual violence once and for all. The time for excuses is over. The time for action is now. Let us come together, united in our determination to end this epidemic of sexual violence, and create a society where women can live without fear and with dignity. BY: JOAQUIN LUIS A. BONIFACIO, KIAN REN C. SISON, BJORN ALBERZ F. BUAN BY: JOAQUIN LUIS A. BONIFACIO, KIAN REN C. SISON Porn, the elephant in the room that no one wants to talk about. But let's face it, we've all seen it and it's time to have a real conversation about how it's impacting our sexuality. First things first, let's get one thing straight (no pun intended), there's nothing inherently wrong with watching porn. But, like anything else, it's all about moderation. And unfortunately, for many adolescents and young adults, moderation is not the name of the game. You see, the problem with porn is that it often sets unrealistic expectations for both men and women. Suddenly, everyone's supposed to have perfect bodies, last for hours and have multiple orgasms. Newsflash, that's not how real sex works. But it's not just about the physical side of things. Pornography can also lead to distorted views on consent and boundaries. The constant portrayal of aggressive behavior in porn can make it seem normal and even desirable in real-life sexual encounters. And let's not forget about the impact on relationships. Constant consumption of porn can lead to a lack of desire for real-life intimacy and an inability to form healthy connections with others. https://www.mazzittiandsullivan.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/iStock941800436-1024x683.jpg So, what can we do about it? First and foremost, educate ourselves on the realities of porn and its impact on our sexuality. And, as always, moderation is key. Make sure to take breaks and engage in other forms of sexual expression. And most importantly, let's start talking about it. The more we can openly discuss the effects of porn on our sexuality, the better equipped we'll be to make informed decisions about our own consumption. In conclusion, porn is like that one friend who always shows up uninvited, it can be fun in small doses, but it's important to set boundaries and not let it take over our lives. Remember, real-life intimacy is where it's at, don't let porn fool you otherwise. So, let's have the conversation, educate ourselves, and make sure that our sexuality is a reflection of our own desires and not the fantasies of others. Consent is not just a buzzword, it's a crucial aspect of any sexual encounter. Think of it like a secret handshake you do before getting intimate. Without consent, sexual acts are like trying to enter a club without the password- not gonna happen. It's important to establish and respect boundaries when it comes to sexual activity. Just like how you wouldn't go into someone's house without asking first, you shouldn't go into someone's body without asking either. Remember, consent is not just a one-time thing, it's an ongoing conversation. So, checkin with your partner throughout any sexual encounter, just like how you would check in with your friend if you're lost in a maze. It's also important to respect any boundaries that a partner may have set. If they say "no" to something, don't try to sneak it in like you're trying to sneak in snacks at the movies. Discuss what you're willing to do. BY: JOAQUIN LUIS A. BONIFACIO, KIAN REN C. SISON We've all heard the whispers and jokes, but our recent survey of 10 students has confirmed that the act of masturbation is more common than we may have thought. 60% of students surveyed admitted to having indulged in self-pleasure at least once. But why is it that masturbation is still such a taboo topic? The truth is, masturbation is a normal and healthy part of human sexuality. It allows individuals to explore their own bodies and understand their own desires. https://images.app.goo.gl/sPHtkJn52mBuEAtBA Plus, it's been known to have benefits such as reducing stress, improving sleep, and even boosting the immune system. Despite its normalcy, many people still feel ashamed to talk about masturbation. But why should we be ashamed of something that is a natural part of human sexuality? It's time to break the stigma and have open and honest conversations about self-pleasure. Many of us are afflicted with self-loathing and shame about our body functions but what are you ashamed of? https://www.goodtherapy.org/blog/sexual-boundaries/ It's important to remember that alcohol and drugs can impair judgement and make it difficult to give or receive consent. So, always have sober and clear communication with your partner when engaging in any sexual activity, like you would if you're trying to order at a drive-thru. Remember, if you're unsure if your partner is comfortable with a certain activity, ask them and always respect their answer. It's like when you're trying to figure out what to watch on Netflix, you ask your partner what they're in the mood for. Finally, consent is all about communication, so talk openly and honestly with your partner about what you're comfortable with and what you're not. It's like when you're trying to plan a surprise party, you have to communicate with everyone involved to make sure it's a good time. Masturbation is a meditation on self-love, there is no risk of pregnancy or obtaining an STD because it’s all done solo. Masturbation will always be available to humans as a safe and easy method of enjoyment. So, the next time you're caught scrolling through your phone in the library or hiding in the shower for an unusually long time, don't be embarrassed. You're not alone, and there's nothing to be ashamed of. In conclusion, masturbation is a normal and healthy part of human sexuality. Let's start talking about it openly and break the stigma surrounding it. And remember, there's no need to hide it, we're all in this solo act together. 9 the FEATURE COURIER WEDNESDAY 1 FEBRUARY 2023 CLASS ANATOMY By : meridette Hernandez Kabit students are attention seekers who loves flirting even with teachers are discussing lessons or while eating in the canteen. Some like to call them "pick me's" for they will do anything for male validation. They love to cling on their male classmates like monkeys who haven't eaten in years. They are always hated by the whole class for they are rude and shows an attitude to people that they aren't attracted to. These are the same students who gives birth to a child like them at an early age and solely depends on their parents who love them enough to take care of their grandchildren. They like to act masculine or do manly things for their male friend's attention. They’d rather hangout with men rather than hanging out with other women for the reason that women have more “drama". They do anything just to be the star of their section because they think they are better than everyone when in fact, they can't even pass their tests and requirements. These students love to post on facebook and even tiktok so they could show parts of them no one even wants to see for they are just kids in everyone's eyes. Eventhough they are straight up annoying, we can't deny that they are just victims of bad parenting and a bad environment. They are too obsessed with attention and affection that they do things they shouldn't be doing at their age to feel loved. They are egoistic because they are associated with people who are high on the school's social ladder or also called as mhiemas. They are like dogs who follow their "master" around waiting for a treat. They might not be the ones who starts the fight all the time but they will fight like their life depends on it if someone provokes them. Like their "mhiemas", they won't back down especially when their "reputation" gets damaged. One thing that is good about them is their confidence for they do many cringey things without feeling ashamed. Their passion with being just like their mhiemas is unreachable for they are too determined to dethrone and be as problematic as them one day. Nakshies are the ones who like to post their selfies doing not-so-minor friendly poses and still feel proud with themselves because their friends who likes to tolerate them always hype them up in their comment sections. Little do they know, their friends are probably talking about how cringe they are in a group chat without them. NAKSHIES Drawn By Dwayne Wanasen Nakshies might be good in fighting everyone but they are surely not good with picking who they become friends with. They might be high on the schools social circle but they definitely can't trust their friend group for they are just there for connections and power. Hot headed bossy war freaks who acts as the mother leader of the group that's frequently seen in canteen and outside the school for after-school fights along with other members of the group named as nakshies or children. Their faces are as red as tomatoes because of liptint, for the reason that they're ugly. All they do is control their inferior classmates and make them do the things they're too lazy to do. Mhiemas are the leaders when it comes to fights and will hunt anyone who mess with them or the members of their group, which is why everyone avoids getting into a fight with them. They can also be found often at the guidance office for many parents and students reports them for their not-so-good behavior. Many people might wonder why and how were they called mhiemas. Well, it all started or trended because of the famous Sassa Gurl who presents all mhiemas and nakshies with her contents. Eventhough mhiemas don't really have a good reputation, they are one of the reasons why going to school is fun and entertaining because they're always the star of multiple scandals and rumors. They make the class complete with their attitude. People might hate them for causing problems all around the schools but many will probably miss them once they're gone for they do everything just to protect their nakshie's whether they do good or bad things. Leaves, the most common part of the plant where we mostly eat and not as a tissue after the nature called. Stem, without it leaves will fall. Roots, the most important part so that the whole plant will have a meaningful and happy ever after life. It helps to even out the skin tone and reduce the appearance of dark spots and blemishes. Cleansers, toners, and moisturizers work together to remove dirt and impurities; they also balance the skin's pH level and hydrate. Lastly it reduces wrinkles and improves skin elasticity so you won't look old and won't look like a sugar mommy. But if there are positve effects and benefits using beauty products, there are also megative effects. Some people say in our statistics that "they use make-up just to hide their ugly face." The only hard part of beauty products is when your body doesn't want to hide its true nature and it can result in eye infections, swelling of the mouth, lips, face, and throat, clogged skin pores, and dry or oily skin—it all includes an allergic reaction in certain people. But of course, if you overuse beauty products, your body will become accustomed to them. The feeling that you don't want to go out without your ghostly make-up on.
