1. What is your stance on the same-gender sexuality issue: rejection, love the sinner hate the sin, or full acceptance? How can you ensure that your care as a healthcare professional to individuals of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities is not hindered by your personal bias/beliefs/opinion? I am in full acceptance of the same-gender sexuality issue because I believe that being able to live out who we believe we truly are is the first step to be able to accept how other people view themselves as well. When we start from the core or what is within, we are able to see that how we identify is not something that can simply be explained, chosen, or easily changed since the world was created to be unique and sometimes even incomprehensible. As a human being, I will always have my own opinions and beliefs that I could carry in the workplace. However, to ensure that this does not hinder the quality of care I give to my patients, I will not view them with who they identify themselves with, what they have done, or what they believe in (in other terms, I focus on what I can give instead) because my main duty is to heal and to address issues that affect their holistic health. 2. How can understanding and implementing the SOGIE Bill contribute to providing holistic care for LGBTQA++ patients as future nurses? The SOGIE Bill was mainly made to cater the LGBTQA++ community who have been discriminated and stripped off of their rights for decades of years. Understanding its purpose and supporting its implementation would not only educate me to be aware of what they deserve to have but also for me to exercise the personalized care they need considering they have been through so much and they have their own stories. In every patient encounter and as a firm supporter of the SOGIE Bill, I am able to address their physical concerns and at the same time aid with other aspects that need to be addressed such as their mental, social, emotional, and even spiritual health. This way I could ensure that they are leaving under my care with not only a healthier body but also a lighter heart.
