NobelClad Simplified Procedure for Detaclad® Explosion Clad July 12, 2019 INTRODUCTION This simplified procedure covers the steps to produce explosion welded clad (EXW) plates using NobelClad’s Detaclad® process. OPERATION DESCRIPTION Raw Material Inspection Cladder (cladding metal) and Backer (base metal) go through Receiving and Inspection: • Dimensions (Length, Width) • Thickness • Mill certificates Cladding material is Seam Welded together using GTAW/Machine WPS with applicable HT treat Welds go through NDE testing (PT and RT) Surface Preparation nobelclad.com Grinding of surfaces to be bonded by mechanical means to: • Clean surfaces from oxides and impurities • Achieve optimum surface condition to insure the highest quality bond sales@nobelclad.com NobelClad Simplified Procedure for Detaclad ® Explosion Clad Document 1, Rev 1 Issued 7/12/19 Prepared by Edgar Vidal Approved by Joe Mayfield OPERATION DESCRIPTION Assembly Positioning of cladding alloy on the top of Base to achieve the nominal Stand-off Distance required by the process Assembled into a pack and moved to the explosion site Cladding Operation Loading of the explosive on the top of the cladding alloy The explosive type and charge are precisely defined by the process. The ignition point is precisely located into the explosive layer depending on plate type and size. Flattening & Cutting Bonded plate back to manufacturing site for Post-bond operations Stress relief as required by material combination Roller flattening Ultrasonic Inspection & Testing Bonded plate surface area is 100% ultrasonically inspected Plate is cut to requested dimensions and stamped to ensure traceability If applicable the plate has a cosmetic weld repair at the initiation point of the explosion using GTAW/ Manual The bonded plate receives final flattening if required nobelclad.com sales@nobelclad.com NobelClad Simplified Procedure for Detaclad ® Explosion Clad Document 1, Rev 1 Issued 7/12/19 Prepared by Edgar Vidal Approved by Joe Mayfield OPERATION DESCRIPTION Ultrasonic Inspection & Testing (continued) Final inspection prior to releasing (dimension, flatness, UT, Weld PT) Surface finished and marked per customer request The plate is packed and shipped N OT E : All steps are controlled by ISO 9001-2015, ASME U stamp # 38,546, ABS MA# 14-ER2734063 for quality assurance and design assessment. Digital x-ray is also available. SUMMARY OF TESTS AND INSPECTIONS FOR DETACLAD PLATES For more information, please refer to DMC 100, Rev 3.
