CHARMAINE ESGUERRA PHOTOGRAPHY-II Michael Kenna A world class English contemporary landscape photographer known for his unusual and mysterious black and white compositions with high contrast and glows (exposure) often taken 'at dawn or in the dark hours of night'. Michael Kenna is a 70 year old (Born in 1953) landscape photographer from England and now currently based in Seattle, Washington USA. He is 'one of the most acclaimed landscape photographers of his generation'. Famous for his photographic compositions and use of light, "concentrating primarily on the interaction between the natural landscape and human-made structures." His use of light and manipulation of exposure in his compositions are what separates his photos from other contemporary landscape photographer. His works are inspired and widely compared to the works of American photographer Ansel Adams, another world class artist, as well as to British photographer, Henry Fox Talbot. According to an interview, he's influenced by Japanese photographers, Hokusai and Hiroshige, Kenna's works exhibit the sereneness and tranquility of the natural world, natural phenomenon, human-made structures, and atmosphere. Capturing it in a manner that is so encapsulating, with his minimal compositions that prioritizes to showcase relation of light and shadows with the subject/scene. His techniques is to have long exposures to capture the intense contrast of lighting and design the luminance of the composition.
