Each letter will have formal and informal versions except for those that are meant to always be
formal.
Certain letters will require collaboration between two or more pairs. Please refer to scenarios
for this.
Write your letter in a Word document and save as PDF. You have to hand-over the PDF by pair.

Formal: You are a professor who
counsels and mentors students.
Your former student sends you a
letter asking for advice on a work
problem. You outline the steps
they need to do to solve it
Informal: You are writing a letter
to a young friend who is trying to
choose between university and
finding a job. You want your
friend to skip university and go
straight to job-hunting.

Informal: You have recently

Formal: You are working in a law
firm as a paralegal. You have
made a mistake in recording files
on an important case. The case is
still months away, but the head
lawyer noticed the mistake. You
take this opportunity to rectify
the mistake and apologize.

invite a very close family friend
to your birthday party. You want
to apologize and make amends
as you had promised to invite
them when you last talked.

opportunity for future
collaboration.
Informal: You are writing to a
friend inviting them to your
house-warming party. Include
information on the event that
you think is something they
should know.

and you are also wondering what
they would like as a gift.
