PROCEDURE The teacher will set the class with the preliminary activities: A. Review/ Introductory Prayer, Nationalistic song, exercise, attendance check Activity (2 minutes Preliminaries) B. Activity/ Motivation (10 minutes) C.Analysis ( 5 minutes) Directions: Study the two sentences below. Give your observations orally. 1.The artist sings a song while painting. 2. A song is sang by the artist while painting. (Give time for the students to give their observation) Ask the following questions: 1. How did you find the activity? 2. What have you noticed about the structure of the sentences? 3. Who did the action in sentence one? D.Abstraction (45 minutes) 4. What is the function of the subject in sentence two? The verb as an action word has a VOICE. This term is used to tell if the verb is ACTIVE or PASSIVE. The voice of the verb indicates whether the subject is acting or being acted upon. Example of an ACTIVE sentence. The servant cooks special food for the rich. Subject + active verb + object Example of a PASSIVE statement Special food is cooked by the servant. Subject +passive verb + object of the preposition by Rules in changing Active sentence into Passive. 1.Identify the verb used in the active sentence and change it into verb be + past participle tense of the verb 2. Move the direct object to the beginning of the sentence. 3.Move the subject to the end of the sentence and add the preposition “by” before it. Examples: 1.Sarah mailed the document. Active The document was mailed by Sarah. Passive 2. The boys will run a race. Active A race will be run by the boys. Passive 3.The choir sings love songs. Active Love songs are sung by the choir. Passive C. Valuing: Finding Practical Applications of Concepts and Skills in Daily Living (30 minutes) D. Generalization (30 minutes) Let’s try this… Directions: 1.We pray the rosary. Active Answer: The rosary is prayed by us. 2. The doctor refused the patient. Active Answer: The patient was refused by the doctor. 3. People will admire him. Answer: He will be admired by the people. Answer the following questions: 1. What is an active sentence? 2. What is a passive sentence? 3. What are the rules that we need to follow in changing an active sentence into passive? G. Assessment (60 minutes) A. Directions: Tell if the sentence is ACTIVE or PASSIVE. 1. The idea about discrimination was revealed by him. Passive 2. The elders are respected well by the visitors. Passive 3. The visitors admire his brilliance. Active 4. The principal talked about home learning this morning. Answer: Home learning was talked about by the principal this morning 3. The guards will keep the safety of the students. Answer: The safety of the students will be kept by the guards. 4.Someone brought my books in the classroom. My books were brought by someone to the classroom. 5.The teachers will meet the Regional Director. Answer: The Regional Director will be met by the teachers. H.
