PHILOSOPHY
Science – the investigation is systematic. It follows
certain steps, or it employs certain procedures.
- Organized body of knowledge
Natural light or reason – investigates things not by
using any other laboratory instrument or
investigative tools, neither on the basis of
supernatural revelation.
Study of all things – All other sciences concern
themselves with a particular object of investigation.
First cause or highest principle – principle is that
from which something proceeds in any manner
whatsoever.
(whatever is/whatever is not, impossible to be and
not to be at the same time, nothing exist without a
sufficient reason for its being and existence)

Situation #1 - There was an airplane crash,
every single person on board died, but yet
two people survived. How is this possible?
Situation #2 - What goes up and never
comes down?
Situation #3 - Imagine you are in a sinking
row boat surrounded by sharks. You have a
life jacket and the closest island is 100
meters.
The Branches of Philosophy
Metaphysics - examines the
fundamental nature of reality, including
the relationship between mind and
matter, between substance and
attribute, and between potentiality and
actuality.
Ethics - the branch of knowledge that
deals with moral principles
Epistemology - study of the nature of
knowledge, justification, and the rationality of
belief.
Logic - reasoning conducted or assessed
according to strict principles of validity
Aesthetics - a set of principles concerned with
the nature and appreciation of beauty,
especially in art.
EVALUATION:
Form groups and conduct a role play on the
following situations.
1. You have been saving your extra allowance in
order to buy a new pair of rubber shoes. However,
your mother is asking you to give your money to
your sister so she can buy a new bag for school.
2. One of your friend uploaded embarrassing
pictures of another friend on an online site. It was
supposed to be a joke, but your other friends are
angry at her for doing it and are telling you not to
talk to her.
3. One of your friends was hurt in a fight with
some students from a nearby school. Your
other friends approached you saying that
they want you to go with them after class to
look for the students who hurt your friend.
4. Your family has already made plans to go
on vacation but two days before your trip,
your father had an accident and your planned
vacation had to be cancelled. Your younger
sister was really looking forward to the trip
and was upset with your father for ruining it.
