Assignment - 2
A) The primary use of all the three artifacts is same. Only the way the interface has been
designed differentiates them from each other. The main use of all three is to show years,
months, and days in order. The artifacts provide different ways of achieving the core
activities of planning and reminding.
 A pocket diary can be used in many ways such as to plan the days for the week or
month. It can also be used to write something which the like such as poems or
drawing. A wall calendar, on the contrary, displays a page containing full month.
However, a wall planner is designed in such a way that it shows the full year's
information on one page (1) or on some pages (2).

 Diaries are used to add dates such as appointments, weekly events, or any other timerelevant information. Wall calendars offer limited space to the user. It facilitates the
user to identify key dates like public holidays, festivals etc. Wall planners do rarely
provide the space to the user. Diaries are pocket-sized so they can be misplaced or
lost easily while wall calendars and wall planners are large and placed on the wall so
there is less possibility of them being misplaced or lost.
 Wall calendars and wall planners are designed as a poster, used for being interacted
with and viewed from one place. On contrary, pocket diaries are created in the book
format and are portable to use. Diaries are designed to keep the lives of the people
well organized by providing additional information such as contact books, notes
pages, and other personal information whereas wall calendars and wall planners do
not provide these additional features.
B) An electronic personal calendar
 The main use of an electronic personal calendar is day planning and important
analogies such as monthly calendars, yearly planners, text editing applications which
can include file save, create, update, delete, and automatic alerts. Events are linked to
calendars which can help to remember event start and end dates, time, locations,
invitees, and description. It can be used from anywhere.
Shared calendar
 The main benefit of a shared calendar is email applications that include attachment
and arrange schedules to book a meeting. An email message is sent as an invitation to
invite individuals to the event. Invitation emails are sent to the recipients to accept or
reject the meeting request. It is used because it is time efficient.
Event sharing is the significant difference between personal calendar and shared calendar. A
personal calendar allows users to create an event on specified dates. While in shared calendar
only the owner is allowed to grant read or write access. From the metaphor perspective,
events and invitations are the most prominent ones. New users may have an understanding
problem like how to send meeting invitations, add locations, send emails regarding upcoming
events. Sharing event could be one of the confusing aspect because events may overlap.
