Huỳnh Quốc Tín 20DH714590 Chapter 1. Introduction 1.1. Background of the study In every human life, first aid skill has always proven itself to be one of the most crucial role, as it has the potential to stop the worse from happening. Every year, 150,000 lives are endangered, taken away due to the shortage of first aid knowledge as well as skills; what an astounding number and yet it is a heartbreaker. Encountering accidents is inevitable, because at some point in our lives, we will eventually meet one, during that time, by-standers in the one that are expected to join hands in such a life-threatening situation. When it comes to performing first aid procedures, specific knowledge and skills are required; the fewer information you know about first aid, the less opportunities you are likely to help the patient to have any further damage or even escaping death. Accidents such as traffic accidents, drowning, fire disaster,… happen almost everywhere in human daily life, so does in Vietnam. Whenever an accident takes place, only few of the patients could make it to the hospital in time and get access to treatments, the others tend to make it to the hospital from 24 to 72 hours after, which can be critical. Those who are not having access to the hospital care on time, performing first-aid procedures is extremely fundamental as disabilities and fatal deaths could be prevented using this method. Though this is a life skill that can help us to improve the quality of our daily life, yet students have shown that they know very little about this life skill. As a result, the objective of this study was to investigate the difficulties faced by Huflit students. 1.2. Rationale There are thousands of benefits that come along with learning first aid. For example, first aid courses not only teach you about saving lives, but it also provides lessons that can help you to out run emergency situatuons. Thus, these skills should be well-acknowledged by students before graduating. However, students at Huflit do not get their chances on learning these skills as they are not included in the curriculum. Huflit rarely supported the subject for their students tu participate in. 1.3. Statement of purpose The study focuses mainly on the factors and difficulties which students at HUFLIT face in studying first aid skills . The researcher hopes that its finding and suggestions do contribute something to the whole process of teaching and learning first aid skills at HUFLIT. 1.4. Limitation The study will confine itself to collecting answers of questionnaire from students at HUFLIT. Due to the time limit, the study just deals with the difficulties while learning first aid skills. 1.5. Methodology Quantitative is employed to conduct the research. The responses from the students’ questionnaire, which is sent to 50 students at the first stage of the research are collected as valuable information to find out the difficulties in studying first aid skills at HUFLIT. Consequently, the data are supposed to be fully analyzed to find out the best answers to the research questions 1.6. Organization of the study The research consists of five main chapters, not to mention the references. Chapter 1 provides (1) the background of the study; also included in this chapter are (2) the rationale of the study and (3) the aim of the study, (4) the study’s limitation and delimitation, (5) the methodology employed in the research and (6) the organization of the study. Chapter 2 presents a review of literature related to the matters under discussion which serves as the theoretical framework to the study. Chapter 3 describes the research design and the methodology employed in the research. Chapter 4 analyses the findings from the students’ questionnaire. Chapter 5 draws conclusions and offers recommendation to the students.
