Sri Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam – Decision Analysis …(group 2 contd)
Decision Analysis Approach – A. unbiased multiple solution
B. Not losing key focal areas – Revenues, Independence, Reputation
C. Final solution to be based on pragmatism and pt. B
Solution 1 – Remove paid Q system. Make ‘1st come 1st served’ based.
Positive Impact – class distinction eliminated, cost free entry
Adverse Impact – Source of revenue for temple operations gone, manual employees needed to supervise first come
first served.
Net Position – Q distinction only till gates. Garbha Griha darshan not on Q
Solution 2 – Keep Q system, remove paid system, but slot based on online token, no manual token
Positive Impact – No class distinction, Cost free entry, No partiality due to no human intervention
Adverse Impact – revenue shortages, When there is huge crowd pressure period like 2-3 final days of Dasara, 3rd
Saturday of Peratasi month, ashadh and Shravan months, online system of 96 crore populated Hindus in India may
crash.May create utter booking chaos.
Net Position – Crowd managing issues remain while revenue declines
Decision Analysis …(group 2 contd)
Solution 3 – Keep online Q system with payment system surge pricing
Positive Impact – Pricing is not on capacity to pay, Higher price on late arrival behavior, Self correction behavior
mechanism.
Pricing not based on Mr Money bags strength, thus not a class distinction.
Revenue inflows intact without class distinction.
Surge pricing takes care of over crowding moments. Crowd bookings will be staggered.
Adverse Impact – Online payment system may face occasional digital hitches.
Net position – Revenue inflows intact without class distinction. No public dispute on rich vs poor. Automatic
staggered crowd control with surge pricing. All ends are smooth.
Solution 4 – Q system format to be based on annual public poll
Positive Impact – public participation enhances popularity
Adverse Impact – Utter chaos for temple as revenues uncertain, if majority opinion prevails stand taken in sensitive
religion matter society feels divided, poll results fluctuation will cause management chaos
Net position – Sri Devasthanam s popularity is already established at 70k devotees per day. It doesn’t need public
poll for that. Nobody can be fixed for liabilities as the responsible boss.
Decision Analysis …(group 2 contd)
Solution 5 – Takeover by Government appointing new trustee body and head priests
on rotation basis
Positive impact – more transparent records with rotational system, revenue partaking
by Government coffers.
Adverse impact – Governments main job is law and order, and welfare systems, this is
unrelated work area for govt.
Govt answerable if appointment bias accusation fly in secular India. Govt = equality for
all perception
Revenue flow for mandir issue is not solved.
Net position – Government’s entry will create unrelated work directions, bias chances
without addressing future revenue issues of Temple.
