Happy Halloween 3 1st October 2019 on the night of “all Hallows Eve”. All the houses were very spooky and I went to the houses to get my candy. I knocked & then said “trick or treat” and all the candy was very sweet. So have some candy if you’re keen And to you and to all Happy Halloween. Halloween history alloween or All Hallows Eve is on october 31st. Halloween is an annual H day to remember the dead. Its other names are Hallowe’en, Hallow’s event, Hallow’s evening, Allhalloween and All saints day.the word Halloween comes from the word Hallowe’en meaning saints evening.Halloween comes from beliefs and folk customs. Halloween is some-what related to an irish festival called Samhain or Summer's end lasting from October 31st to november 1st. Samhain marked the harvest season at the beginning of winter or the year's dark half.also Aos si meaning spirits and fairies would be needed on Samhain days. On Samhain days spirits would enter dwellings to find hospitality and on these days candles would be lit and prayers would be said. In ireland and britain games would be played such as apple bobbing and nut roasting.Then in the 16th century people would go from house to house and would either sing songs or exchange food similar to the “souling” custom.The people would wear disguises or impersonate someone so that they could protect themselves from spirits also some people (youths) would go from house to house either wearing masks or black face paint threatening or creating mischief where not wanted. Meanwhile in England in the 20th century people would go out in costumes and play pranks on Halloween. In north america Halloween started to catch on and candy was given to those who wore costumes. It became popular and now has become the trick or treating we do today. Now Americans go full out on Halloween and when the sun goes down you will hear the words “trick or treat” every where. History of the Jack-o-lantern Jack-o-lantern is a carved pumpkin, turnip, pineapple, rutabaga,gourd A or beet that has a face carved into it.jack-o lanterns come from the legends such as the legend of stingy Jack. The light sometimes above bogs or marshes is also known as a jack-o lantern. The carving of vegetables has been a tradition all over the world for example the Maori people carved gourds 700 year ago.It is thought that the jack-o lantern carving tradition started in Ireland on Hallowe’en and would have grotesque faces. The lanterns were said to represent supernatural beings and would ward off e vil spirits. Some times jack-o lanterns were used to scare people. Sometimes they were put on window sills to keep evil spirits out of the house and sometimes they were used to represent souls in all saints day. Then in north America the legend of sleepy hollow and the headless horseman used the jack-o lantern or carved pumpkin and later became very popular with Halloween and spread not as the scary irish turnip but a spooky (but fun) pumpkin jack-o lantern we know today.The jack-o lanterns then spread and now are the jack-o lanterns we know today. History of “trick or treat” rick or treating is a tradition that happens on Halloween. How it works T is on Halloween night people dress up in Halloween costumes such as skeletons, ghosts, zombies etc and go to houses that have been decorated for Halloween and knock at the door and then say “trick or treat” the person who opens the door and gives the children candy. Halloween goes back all the way to the 16th century where people put on disguises on halloween night.Then in the 19th century in britain people went from house to house reciting verses or\and exchanging food. Another traditional celtic and European samhain custom is to go out “souling” where children would travel in disguises ( guising ) and would give a blessing in return for “soul cakes”
