These words are often used interchangeably and refer to a society in which things are held in common. An early distinction between communism and socialism was that the latter aimed to only socialize production while the former aimed to socialize both production and consumption (in the form of free access to final goods). John Goodwyn Barnbye was a communist and a Unitarian. 1840’s-> Constantine von Tischendorf (1815 – 1874) discovered the Archimedes Palimpsest in a Greek Orthodox Library in Constantinople and stole pages from it; a copy of The Method, a Calculus textbook written by Archimedes (287 B.C. – 212 B.C). The textbook had been copied over as a prayer book by 13th century monks. 1844 -> Codex Vaticanus “rediscovered”. 1845 -> Codex Sinaiticus “discovered” by Constantine von Tischendorf (1815 – 1874). 1847 -> Communist Manifesto published. Written by Karl Marx (1818 – 1883) and Friederick Engels (1820 - 1895). Karl Marx and Frederick Engels were Atheists. 1859 -> Origin of Species published, authored by Charles Darwin. Proposed Survival of the Fittest (a.k.a. Natural Selection) as the basis of the Theory of Evolution. Evolution is not such a new idea. Darwin credited Aristotle (384 – 322 B.C) and Empedocles (494-434 B.C) theory of Cosmogony which attempted to explain how everything sprang into existence (without God). The Theory of Evolution influenced communism and Nazism. For the communists, it justified their Atheism; for the Nazi’s, their belief that they were the Maser Race. Who are Aristotle and Empedocles? Greek Philosophers. Who did the Apostle Paul engage in Athens (Acts 17)? Greek Philosophers. What did Paul say? “God, who made the world and everything in it…” 1859 -> Codex Sinaiticus fully recovered by Constantine von Tischendorf. 1861 -> American Civil War begins 1865 -> American Civil War ends. 1875 -> Theosophical Society of America founded by Helena Blavatsky (1831 – 1891) and Henry Steel Olcott (1832–1907). Blavatsky was an occultist who said Satan was the god of this World, the only god. Her ideas on the origin of humanity influenced Adolf Hitler. 1881 -> Wescott & Hort Greek Text published. Based on Sinaiticus and Vaticanus. Praised by Blavatsky. 1881 -> English Revised Version published based on Wescott & Hort Critical Greek Text. 1888 -> Frederick Nietzsche (1844 – 1900) authored “The Antichrist” in which he argues Christianity makes men weak. Nietzsche was a philosopher who wrote many books. He was angry with God. He was in favor of slavery. His writings influenced Adolf Hitler (1889 – 1945), the dictator of Nazi Germany during WWII. 1901 -> American Standard Version published based on Wescott & Hort Critical Greek Text. 1914 -> WWI begins 1918 -> WWI ends 1917 -> October Revolution (Russia) gave rise to Vladimir Lenin’s (1870 – 1924) Communist Bolshevik party. 1922 -> Soviet Union founded. Mussolini and the Fascist Party came to power in Italy. 1933 -> Hitler and the Nazi Party came to power in Germany. 1939 -> Hitler invades Poland. WWII begins 1/2 Open Bible Baptist Teen Sunday School 17 Jan 2021 The above timeline provides some context of the state and spirit of the world in the days that the verity of the King James Bible and its underlying Greek and Hebrew text was challenged. Atheism and the Occult were on the rise. The Theory of Evolution (a.k.a. Darwinism) was new and very popular in much of the world as it justified many evils; racism, anti-Semitism, abortion. It continues to this day, even in the United States. Churches then and now were and are influenced by these philosophies, especially Darwinism. Today there are two types of Greek New Testament text: “Alexandrian”, and “Byzantine”. The Modern Critical Greek Text assembled by Wescott and Hort is based on two defective manuscripts, the Sinaiticus and Vaticanus. These texts contain many obvious errors and are missing many passages. These are the “Alexandrian”. These manuscripts were a gift to unbelievers and heretics in the church such as Wescott and Hort, as missing passages gave them excuse to deny many Bible doctrines such as: Creation The Flood Deity of Christ Salvation by Faith alone in the Work of Christ Substitutionary Atonement God promised to preserve His word: I Pet 1:23 I Pet 1:25 (Is 40:8) I Thes 2:13 2 Pet 3:16 Psalm 33:11 God keeps His promises. The other family or type of manuscript, the Byzantine type is where we get the “Received Text” of Erasmus, from which we get our King James Bibie. We will be discussing this in some more detail. 2/2
