Introductory speech
This toolkit contains three rudimentary pieces that are most popular among
performers around the world. I wanted to make the approach to them more modern,
and try to play them with a more accurate sense of time, a sense of ensernble play.
It is for this reason this book comes with a disc containing my personal audio recordings,
which are arrangements for these pieces. "Crazy Army" - Ed Lemley's solo has an
extra piece written by me, and is slightly modified in some accent hits.
I would like to remind you that rudiments are the basis of a drummers üinking
and technique, a certain unique method by studying which you will improve your skills.
In addition to the rudiments themselves, there is a need to study and perform
rudimentary pieces, which will help develop phrases, rudiments combinations, and
develop performance of rudiments as a musical component.
You will find several tempo options on this disc, intended for different ages and
skill levels of performers. Good luck in mastering these pieces, and in developing
a rudimentalist thinking!

What is rudimentai drumming? There are probably as many different ideas as to what rudimental
drumming is or isnt as there are drummers, and the simplest definition is that it is drumming where
rudiments, or sticking patterns, are primarily played. But the essence of rudimental drumming is
coordination. The more rudiments a drummer practices, the more developed will be their hand
coordination. No matter what idiom of music is played, if a drummer or Percussionist is needed, that
person
will need to utilize sorne degree of coordination to deliver a rhlthm, or set of rhlthmS, in time.

.o-plex rhlthms call for more hand coordination. Thus, the phrase "rudimental drumming" can
be defined as drumming that is focused entirely on developing one's coordination by learning aS man}
sticking combinations as possible.
A word about Pavel Sİepanov and his passion for rudimental drumming. Pavel is an outliel which
means he is a person who differs from ail other meınbers of a particular group, one who is outside
the norm. Pavel doesnt choose to be just a drummer, or even just a drummer who wishes to study
rudimental drumming. He chooses to be more; he chooses to be a pioneer, one who exPlores the
opening of new territories. He wishes to explore and push his own personal drumming boundaries,
by utiliİing rudiments to their fuliest extent so that he may excel as a rhlthmist. He seeks to spread
and disseminate rudimental drumming to other drummers in his homeland, and with the internet,
to the world. He has a passion not only for learning his craft, but also sharing it with others. Which
makes him a teacher oİ the highest calibeı one who does it for passion and not because of reward.
His books on rudimental drumming were written with this in mind; to share his knowledge so that
others may benefit. Learn as much as you can from Pavel Stepanov, for he has proven himself as
a major contributor of the artform of rudimental drumming.
