ASSIGNMENT 5: TEACHING MEDIA AND DESIGNING ASSESSMENT IN THE EMS

Ensure that you answer each question according to the mark allocation indicated. All

1. In an under-resourced school, where not all learners have access to their own
textbook, what teaching media and tools will you as the grade 7 EMS teacher
use to advance the teaching and learning in your class? Justify your response by
explaining how you will select and use the teaching media and use examples to
support your argument.
Hint: Consult LU5 and its accompanying OER to guide you in answering this
question.

2. Critically evaluate the importance of planning assessment before teaching starts
and illustrate what role assessment plays in the learning process.

3. A rubric is a combination of rating codes and a description statement or
comment. Suppose you are a grade 8 EMS teacher and you have requested
your learners to prepare a five-minute presentation on a topic: The economy:
Needs and wants as a topic prescribed in the CAPS document.
Create a personalised rubric that you will use to assess each learner’s presentation

HINT: Use the rubrics from the learning unit and various other sources that
you research as a guideline. DO NOT duplicate them.

4. Design a formal class test and memo for the following topic: Grade 8: The
Economy: Standard of Living. The questions must be aligned to the range of
cognitive levels (page 50 of GET CAPS) and based on Blooms taxonomy as well
as content described in the GET Amended CAPS.
The test must count for 30 marks and be written in 30 minutes.
This test must reflect a real classroom test and leave space for the learner’s
information. It must have clear instructions and mark allocations based on the
level at which you are testing the learners. The memo must also be clear and
easy to follow for other markers.
