COURSE CODE: NURS 1304- CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY I (cf-6)
CREDIT HOURS: 90HRS
Prerequisites: Human Anatomy I&II, Medical Physiology I&II, Medical Biochemistry I&II
Course Purpose
The purpose of this unit is to equip the student with knowledge, skills and attitudes in the use of
pharmaco-therapeutic agents to manage patients presenting with a variety of health problems.
Expected Learning Outcomes
At the end of the unit the student will be able to:
1. Describe the basic concepts of clinical pharmacology
2. Describe the factors influencing individuals’ response to drug therapy
3. Apply nursing process in drug therapy
4. Discuss the role of complementary and alternative medicine in contemporary drug
therapy
5. Describe the various commonly used drugs, antimicrobial agents antimicrobial agentsantibiotics, anti-tuberculous agents, anti-malarials, anti-helminthes, anti-fungal, antiseptic, anti-viral, anti-retroviral-HAART.
