(10/7/2022) TASK 1 BAR CHART: 1) The given bar chart illustrates the proportion of male and female teachers in six different types of educational setting, namely pre-school, primary school, secondary school, college, private training institute and university in the UK in 2010. Overall, men and women were equally represented in secondary school, college and private training institute, while in the other types of educational settings showed an unbalanced percentage. The gender gap is intensively large in nursery and primary school, there were more than fifteen times as many women as men. University is the only type of educational setting in which men particularly outnumbered women, men acoount for a intensively large proportion in the university, more than 70%. The other types of educational setting which are secondary school, college and private training institute, men and women showed a nearly balanced rate. In college, there were as many men. However, in secondary school, women outnumbered men and in private institute, men outnumbered women. 1) Sửa The given bar chart illustrates the proportion of male and female teachers in six different types of educational setting, namely pre-school, primary school, secondary school, college, private training institute and university in the UK in 2010. Overall, men and women were equally represented in secondary school, college and private training institute, while in the other types of educational settings showed an unbalanced percentage. The gender gap is intensively large in nursery and primary school. Over 95 per cent of nusery school teachers, for example, were female. This situation is similarly one-sided in primary school, where over 90 per cent of teachers were women. University is the only type of educational setting in which men particularly outnumbered women, men acoount for a intensively large proportion in the university, more than 70 per cent. In the other teaching institutions catering for older children and yong adults: secondary schools and colleges, men and women showed a nearly balanced rate. Colleges lecturers, for example, were 50 per cent female and 50 per cent male. TASK 2: WOMEN AND MEN ARE COMMONLY SEEN AS HAVING DIFFERENT STRENGTH AND WEAKNESSES. IS IT RIGHT TO EXCLUDE MALES AND FEMALES FROM CERTAIN PRFESSIONS BEACAUSE OF THEIR GENDER? 1) From ancinet time to the present, women and men are commonly seen as having different strengths and weekness. Some people say that we should exclude men and women from certain occupation due to their gender. In my point of view, it is wrong to exclude a certain gender from a certain profession. We have to admit that there are some occupations that are likey suitable for certain gender beacause of gender’s biological differences. Women are more affectionate and emotional so they are appropriate for occupation which related to children, medical and hospitality, whereas men are suitable for construction industries because they are physically stronger. However, it does not mean that men are not employed in the industries which are more appropriate for women. For instance, there is an intensive increase in male teachers at many educational institutions. In the vast majority of professions, making occupations more open to both genders has significant advantages. Each gender have their own perpectives so that they can bring a different approaches and views to a circumstance. Police, an occupation that is male-dominated perceives a growth in the number of female police in rencent years. Despite of strength difference, female police still recieve big acclaim beacause they have a greater understanding of dosmetic violence and a better range of strategies for dealing such problems. Many occupations, not only police could benefit from the different perspectives and efficiency that mixed gender teams bring. Inshort, the gender gap is closing in the vast majority of occupations in our society and both gender have freedom to choose their carrer. Although some occupations remain to be female- or male-dominant, there are more advantages to remain equal male and female in most profession. 11/7/2022 TASK 1: LINE GRAPH The given line graph illustrates the proportion of UK adolescents going on a vegetarian diet. Overall, the graph shows two main periods of interest in vegetarianism among young people in the UK: one peaking around 1978 and the second projected to peak approximately forty years later, in 2015. In 1960, vegetarian diet is not prevalent among the UK adolescents. Over one decade, there was a sharp increase in the percentage of UK adolescents who are on a vegetarian diet, from 1 per cent in 1960 to more than 7 per cent in 1970. It then rose dramatically until it reached a peak of 15 per cent in 1980. It fell significantly over the next ten years and then fluctuated for the following one decade. After increasing steeply since 2000, the proportion of adolescents following a vegetarian diet in the UK have remained the same. It is projected to rise more gradually in the 21st century. TASK 2 Nowadays, people are getting busier which means that they could not spend much time on eating or any other activities. Because of that, over one decade, there was a significant rise in the number of young generation eating convenience foods instead of traditional foods. It is undoubtable that convenience foods would become increasingly prevalent. However, in my point of view, traditional foods still account for a vast majority of food consumption. Currently, in many parts of the world, because the society is constantly developing so that there are more choices for people in eating. The peace of life is accelerating, which means that young people are tend to choose the things that are more convenience and time-saving. Convenience foods receive acclaim not only because it is usually ready to eat without further preparation, but also being easily portable and have a long shelf life. That is the reason why many people believe that convenience foods may eventually replace traditional foods and traditional methods of food preparation. Nevertheless, there are many evidence against this idea since the disadvantages of using convenience foods outweigh the advantages. Firstly, it is hard to control the amount of calories in convenience foods, thus results in obesity and other health problem. Convenience food may contain less meat, fish or nutritious ingredient that you might contain in homemade versions. After many hard-working hours, people need something that is nutritious and enough calories for them to recharge, and convenience foods obviously are not a proper choice. Secondly, the cost per serving of foods would be much higher than homemade. The more done to foods by someone else, the more you have to pay. Packaging, precooking, seasoning add up to the price and make it much higher than traditional foods. Spending a great deal of money on convenience foods may be not suitable for young generation who try to save money for a better future. To conclude, using convenience foods is appropriate for people who have a good health and being too busy to make the foods at home. Convenience foods become prevalent is unavoidable in such society, but it is obviously that it never can replace the traditional foods because of its drawbacks. TASK 1: Bar chart The given bar chart compares the proportion of international and UK students achieving second class degree or higher in eight different subjects at UK university in 2009. Overall, international and UK students have different strengths in studying second class degree in this university In half of subject, UK students achieving second class degree outnumbered international students. International students tended to do better in science-related subject. This is particularly true for Information technology where nearly 90 per cent of UK students gained this degree, whereas only 58 per cent of international students did so. Degree results were similar for the two groups: Nursing and Accountancy. Accountancy, for example, were 60 per cent international students and 60 per cent UK students. The biggest gap could be seen in international law. While UK students accounted for more than three quarters, international students just accounted for nearly 50 per cent. It was the only subject which fewer than a half of students achieving second class degree. TASK 2: MANY PEOPLE BELIEVE THAT FORMAL “PEN AND PAPER” EXAMINATIONS ARE NOT THE BEST METHOD OF ASSESSING EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT. WHAT IS YOUR VIEW OF EXAMINATIONS? Education is the corner stone of development of the country. In recent years, along with the development in many parts of the world, education has changed significantly compared to the past. Nowadays, there are many ways to evaluate educational achievement, so many people believe that pen and paper examinations are no longer the best method to do so. In my point of view, I absolutely believe that there are many better ways to assess educational achievement. From many years ago, people had a big confidence in pen and paper exam. They believed that pen and paper exam included the questions in range of task so they could measure educational efficiency. However, nowadays due to the development of the internet, most of the questions in the exam is on cyberspace. It makes students find the answers of those questions much easier. Moreover, pen and paper exam is predictable, teachers and students only need to revise an amount of knowledge prior to sitting for an exam. That makes the examinations wrongly evaluate educational results. In addition, many students perform poorly in the exam because they are anxious. Although students have carefully revised for an exam or have achieved many good results through a learning process, they are still unable to obtain good mark because of mental pressure. There are many ways having a new approach for the method of assessing educational results. Currently, many countries have adopted this new method which is evaluate students through a learning process not only by formal pen and paper examinations. The learning process are designed to have many project and extracurricular activities. Not only teachers but also students can assess their classmate performance through campus-based process and other team-work activities. However, there are some parents think that result is the most important, no matter how outstanding their children perform through the learning process, they just want them to achieve high score. To conclude, it is hard to have a certain standard to assess every student. Each has their strength, so education institution need to adopt a number of methods at the same time to achieve best efficiency. The given line graph illustrates the weekly consumption of fish and three different kinds of meat, namely chicken, beef and lamb in a European country from 1979 to 2004. Overall, while there was a sharp decline in the consumption of beef and lamb, the figure of chicken consumed per person increased significantly throughout the given period. In 1979, a person consumed more than 200 grams of beef per week, but the figure dropped dramatically to 150 grams in 1997 and continually decreased until it reached its trough in the end of period. Similarly, the consumption of lamb per person per week in 1979 was 150 grams. However, after a slightly increase in 1987, it decreased sharply for the following 17 years. In contrast, the chicken was the third highest consumption compared to the other in 1979, only 150 grams per week. In 2004, it become the highest which reached 250 grams per person. There was a dramatic rise in the figure of chicken over 25 years. The figure of fish consumed per person nearly remained the same from 1979 to 2004. HA & PHONG IELTS Day 1 1) Dear Mr. Ha, My name is Nham Hien Linh. I am 17 years old. I was born in Ha Noi, the capital city of Vietnam. Currently, I am studying in grade 12 at Hanoi-Amsterdam high school. In my free time, I like reading books and hanging out with my friends. My biggest strength in English is reading. Because most of the time I study for Ielts on my own, I can easily practise my reading skill. I have never taken any Ielts course before so my writing and speaking are very poor. Although both of my mother and siblings are English teachers, they are always very busy and it is hard for me to have a chance to communicate with them in English. I plan to take the Ielts in 4 month's time, before I begin the second term. I want to apply for scholarships to some universities in Singapore and other countries so I need a decent score (at least 7.5) to improve my academic results. To be honest, I will revise Chinese and take many tests in Chinese in the coming 4 months. But since Ielts is a serious goal for me, I will set aside at least 2 hours every day to study for it. I hope with this course and with your assistance, I will achieve my goal. Thank you for reading my letter. 2) Parks are essential to a city. Do you agree or disagree (p9) Reason 1: A park is a powerful air filter to combat urban pollution Explain Trees, plants in the park absorb CO2 and release oxygen Examples: Me Living in a densely populated neighborhood => Constant coughing, nose is clogged from all the dust Walk in Thong Nhat park => nose cleared, take deep breath with ease Connect: The majority of urban residents like myself depend on parks for better respiratory health Reason 2: Cities can make use of parks as a tourist attraction Explain: Park provide a unique natural-friendly environment where tourists can experience many activities Examples: Thu Le park a zoo was built to house exotic wild animal equipped with entertainment facilities such as train rides, merry-go-rounds and spots with scenic backgrounds where people can take photos. Connect: Thu Le park now has become a major tourist attraction where non-local visitors account for the majority of tickets sold What do you enjoy about your university student life? Connect: This experience was valuable in helping me see what the real job of marketer is like. Reason 2: An internship act as a gate-way to full time job Explain: Companies often utilize internships to assess the ability of a student, and then give positions to the most capable and suitable candidates. Examples: My friend Worked hard and maintained a humble attitude during her internship First one to arrive and last one to leave Finish her task on time Willing to listen and learn from her seniors Paid much meticulous attention the reports that she made Connect: Out of several interns, she was picked to become an official employee immediately after the end of her internship 3) Essay 1: Some people say that Hanoi is a great place to live in. Do you agree or disagree? full essay theo hướng agree: Some people believe that Hanoi is a wonderful city to live in. I strongly agree with this idea, since it has beautiful scenery and diverse cuisine. Firstly, Hanoi has stunning man-made and natural beauty. The streets are lined with centuries-old trees. In the old quarter, there are a lot of villas and buildings that still preserve the distinctive French colonial design. Beside that, there are many beautiful natural features throughout the city, for instance, lakes, parks and flower gardens. Because of such attraction, Hanoi has become a favorite subject for photographers who wish to capture its unique urban beauty. Secondly, the diversity in Hanoi cuisine makes the city distinctive. Hanoi attracts immigrants from everywhere who bring their own local dishes. Right in my neighborhood, there are many local and international restaurants that I can choose from, such as A Bun cha shop made from noodles with barbecued pork, a bakery selling freshly baked French baguette or a dumpling restaurant whose owner is from Hong Kong. Food lovers will totally appreciate the many eating options the city offers. In conclusion, for the reasons mentioned above, I believe that Hanoi is a wonderful place to inhabit. Essay 2: Some people say that Hanoi is a great place to live in. Do you agree or disagree? full essay theo hướng disagree: Some people believe that Hanoi is a wonderful city to live in. I strongly disagree with this idea since the air is heavily polluted and the city gets flooded regularly throughout rain season. Firstly, there is catastrophic air pollution in the city. Along with the increase of inhabitants from all over the country migrating to Hanoi, a great deal of constructions are being erected to meet the demand of accommodation in the society. In addition, the increase in population results in a sharp rise in the number of vehicles. The problem of pollution in Hanoi gets worse as a result of the significant amount of carbon dioxide emissions from construction sites and operating vehicles that are released into the atmosphere. For me, as a girl borned in Hanoi, my family and I have been negatively impacted by pollution-related consequences for a long time. Because of living in the center of the city, we have to close the window constantly to prevent the dust from the construction and road repair. Besides, due to a large amount of vehicle exhaust fumes, wearing masks whenever I go outside has become my habit. The current alarming rate of air pollution results in a number of Hanoi immigrants having respiratory problems. Secondly, Hanoi suffers from floods frequently during rain season. When there is a lot of rain, the drainage systems can't function properly, which prevents a lot of water from being drained away. Take summer as an example; rainstorms happen frequently in this season resulting in the overload of drainage pipes. People may have some difficulties in moving around because a number of vehicles have a tendency to break down when the water up to people waist or higher. Furthermore, an excessive level of sewage requires a large amount of time to drain so its foul smelling may negatively affect people's lives. In conclusion, for the reasons mentioned above, I believe that Hanoi is not a wonderful place to inhabit. (324 words) Essay 3: Some believe that studying abroad has many benefits. Do you agree or disagree? Viết full essay theo hướng disagree: Some people believe that students can benefit from studying overseas. I strongly disagree with this idea, since the knowledge which students gain might not be useful and they may easily have mental health problems. Firstly, the knowledge students acquired when studying overseas may not be beneficial. What students learn in a foreign country are not applicable when they return to their home country. Take my friend as an example, he earned a degree in law in the USA. His knowledge of American legal system is irrelevant in Vietnam because every country has its own regime. Because of that reason, no company would recruit him and he had to do a different job, wasting years studying in the USA. It not only cost him a big amount of money but also time and effort. Students should carefully consider if an overseas education will be beneficial for their future career. Secondly, studying overseas may negatively affect student mental health. When learning in a foreign country, most students are adolescents. Although they are young and not fully mature, they have to live in an unfamiliar environment with no friends or family for support. My friend, for instance, after receiving overseas education for a week, he immediately got home sick. He fell exhausted and burnt out regularly and could not confine his attention to the lesson. In addition, due to an extremely fast pace of life, he suffered from cultural shock. Cold weather year-round and little sunshine prevent him from outdoor exercise. The problem got worse when there was a language barrier between him and his friends so that he was not able to make friends with the local people. My friend is just one of millions international students who show signs of depression after a short time studying abroad. In conclusion, for the reasons mentioned above, I believe that studying overseas might be a valuable opportunity for particular career and students who have strong mental health and being independent. (326 words) Essay 4: Some people say that everyone can use and benefit from public transport. Do you agree or disagree? Viết full essay agree Some people believe that public transport is beneficial for every citizen. I strongly agree with this idea, since travelling by public transport is not only safe but also protects the environment. Firstly, using public transport would save the environment. Public transportation carries many passengers at once, so that it reduces the number of private vehicles on the road. Vietnam, for instance, has a high rate of private vehicle ownership, so the streets are frequently filled with motorcycles and cars. A large amount of exhaust fumes from vehicles released into the atmosphere results in extreme air pollution. The air is constantly dirty so wearing masks whenever going outside has become Vietnamese’s habit. In addition, due to dense fog and smoke, people regularly have poor visibility. Compared to Singapore, a country that has a highly developed public transportation system such as buses, sky trains and subway, the rate of air pollution in Vietnam is dramatically higher. The air in Singapore is exceptionally clean because the majority of citizens do not own a private vehicle. The world should emulate Singapore’s model of public transportation to reduce the amount of vehicle exhaust. Secondly, it is secure to use public transport. Public transportation is a large and sturdy vehicle so the occupants are well-protected. Take me as an example, last year I was involved in a bus accident. A drunk driver in a sedan ran a red light, hit several motorcycles and crashed into the side of my bus. Motorcycle riders and sedan drivers around were severely injured. However, all passengers on the bus were completely fine. I can simply take a nap on a bus and be assured that I will be at my destination intact. In conclusion, for the reasons mentioned above, I strongly believe that there are many advantages of using public transport. (300 words) Day 2 Some people say that English is a must-have tool in today’s world. Do you agree or disagree? Some people believe that English is an essential tool nowadays. I strongly agree with this idea, since it could expand our knowledge range and make travelling much easier. For once, we can acquire a wide range of knowledge with English. While materials in many languages are limited, the amount of free knowledge in English on the Internet is almost unlimited. I remember once doing academic research with my friends, when we looked up information on the internet in Vietnamese, most of the data and figures were not appropriate for our research. However, when searching for the needed-information in English, there were thousands of articles and reports that we could benefit from. The English materials which we found have made a large contribution to our research success. The ability to use English as a second language has helped many people gain access to the knowledge they could never have had otherwise. Furthermore, travellers enjoy great convenience with English. Since English is a global language now, we can communicate with locals anywhere with just English. Take my experience in England as an example, when having a trip to The UK last year, the ability to be fluent in English made my trip richer. I have an opportunity to communicate with local people to discover the native cuisine. Moreover, when I visited the national museum, I was able to read in-depth the description of specimens displayed in the box, which helped me learn more about English culture. Using English whenever travelling has considerably enriched my experience. It is clear that anyone wishing to travel internationally nowadays should have a basic command of English to make their trip enjoyable. To conclude, English plays a crucial role in our world today. People who are able to use English as a second language could benefit a lot from this global language in many aspects of life. (310 words) Parks are essential for a city. Do you agree or disagree? Some people believe that parks play a crucial role in every city nowadays. I strongly agree with this idea, since parks not only could improve urban aesthetics but also educate children about the natural environment. For once, parks make the cityscape look more beautiful. The natural landscape's colour and its open space save the urban scenery from being dull. Take me as an example, I live in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. Around me, there are a great deal of construction sites and grey concrete buildings, which not only makes the city scenery lifeless but also gives the locals a stuffy feeling. Every time I have the opportunity to cross the parks, I often go slowly to enjoy the sight. The vibrant green of the trees, colourful flowers, huge lake with gentle waves make a substantial contribution to the urban landscape. If it was not for parks, the great urban centre like Hanoi would be no different than a stuffy giant prison. Furthermore, students could learn many things from parks. Most of the time, children only have lessons about natural-related subjects such as biology, zoology in theory. Parks provide enormous space and a natural environment for children to discover. I still remember the most interesting geography and biology lesson in my life was the practice lesson in which I had an opportunity to visit the parks near my secondary school. In geography lesson, we collected soil samples from the land under the trees to have more knowledge about geographical composition. Besides, we gathered some kinds of insects to understand more about the relationship between insects and plants. I remember clearly how all the students in the class are interested in the diversity of plants. Parks stimulate the passion and curiosity about the natural environment of children growing in the city surrounded by buildings. To conclude, parks are necessary for every city, especially the great urban centre. Government should spend an amount of money to invest for the city infrastructure, building more parks for the citizens for example. (337 words) Foreign language should be a compulsory language for all children. Do you agree or disagree? Some people believe that foreign language should be a core subject in all school curriculum. I strongly disagree with this idea, since the current curriculum is already too heavy for students and it is too expensive to implement a second language nationwide. For once, the existing curriculum is already overloaded for students to follow. Nowadays, students are under tremendous study pressure. Meanwhile, studying a second language requires at least four lessons per week to achieve good results. Take my sister as an example. Every day after class, my sister often goes to the fitness centre for doing yoga and then having evening classes. She feels burned out regularly because of sleep - deprived and packed schedule. If such a difficult and demanding subject like foreign language were introduced into a curriculum as a core subject, young students like my sister would absolutely be crushed by academic pressure. Furthermore, it is prohibitively expensive to teach language on a national scale. Teaching a second language costs a big amount of money and it is unnecessarily wasteful for developing countries. If a school wants their students to achieve a satisfactory outcome in a foreign language, the school management board has to hire not only local teachers but also native teachers with high salaries. Besides, there is a tremendous amount of money spent on the licenced curriculum from Cambridge or Oxford university press. Moreover, modern facilities such as projector, loudspeaker need to be equipped for teaching multimedia content. A developing country like Vietnam obviously cannot afford this nationwide, there are more serious problems in the country which prioritise spending rather than implementing a second language. In conclusion, there are many obstacles to progress in introducing a foreign language into the curriculum. Foreign language is crucial in our society today, however, it is not essential for all children. (303 words) Foreign language should be a compulsory language for all children. Do you agree or disagree? Some people believe that all children must study a second language. I strongly disagree with this idea, since not everyone needs to use a second language and learning foreign language at a young age will disrupt the development of children native tongue. For once, foreign language is not essential for all children. Learning a foreign language is undoubtedly beneficial for some people's career, however, not every occupation requires a second language certificate. Take hard physical labour as an example. Nearly a fourth of Vietnamese are majoring in hard physical work such as famer. Those professions unquestionably do not need their workers to speak a second language, so it is unnecessary for all children to learn foreign languages. Not only hard physical labour, but also many other professions do not benefit from studying a second language. If foreign language became a core subject in all children's curriculum, it would waste their time and effort on studying a language that is not beneficial for their future career. Furthermore, learning a second language at a young age would interfere with children’s native language development. When children are at a young age, they are not fluent in a particular language, so that learning a foreign language at the same time may make them suffer from language disorder. A silent example is a child living near my house. Her parents believed that it would be easy to master a second language if their child had a strong foundation since they were small, so her parents communicated with her in English from childhood. However, after two years speaking two languages at the same time, she has a difficulty getting her meaning across through speech, writing or even gestures. She finds it is difficult to understand what others are saying and express herself. Sometimes, she even has to use google translate to talk to her friends. The child who is near my house is just one of millions of children who have trouble understanding and speaking language. To conclude, some people could benefit from learning a second language, nevertheless, it is unessential for everyone to have a foreign language certificate. Day 3 High school students should do a part-time job. Do you agree or disagree? ESSAY 01: AGREE Some people believe that it is beneficial for high school students to do a part - time job. I strongly agree with this idea, since not only students but also employers could benefit from doing a part - time job. For once, doing a part - time job could help students early orient their future career path. Take my sibling as an example. When she was in grade 11, she had a part - time job as a tutor. She really enjoyed helping children and witnessing their gradual progress. After three months, she realized that she had a passion in teaching, and majored in pedagogy. Doing a part - time job at a young age undoubtedly helps students like my sister gain a better understanding of their strengths and weaknesses, which assists them in finding an ideal occupation. Furthermore, employers could save a large amount of costs. The majority of students lack professional qualifications and job experience, so employers only have to give them the minimum salary. My aunt, for example, has a clothing boutique. The boutique hired an adult employee with a full time salary of 10 million VND. Besides, my aunt had to pay health, social insurance and premium for the employee on some special occasions. Last summer, she fired the employee and hired my friend with only 2 million VND per month. Although my friend had no professional qualifications, she could absolutely manage some jobs such as selling, customer care, which did not require much skill. Thanks to lower employment costs, my aunt has saved a great deal of money per month. Small businesses like my aunt’s boutique could absolutely take advantage of cheap source of labour to reduce their operating expenses. To conclude, doing a part-time job gives students a valuable opportunity to discover themselves as well as giving the employers many options in hiring suitable employees. ESSAY 02: Disagree Some people believe that students could benefit from a part - time job. I strongly disagree with this idea since students might not develop any useful skills from doing a part time job and their study results could be affected. For once, students could gain no skill that is beneficial for their future job. Most students lack professional qualifications and job experience so they regularly do low-skilled jobs, which they might not benefit from. Take my sister for example. Last year, she worked as a waiter in a restaurant. All she did was counting inventory, collecting money and taking care of customers. She did not learn any vocational skills or become more independent, mature after having a part - time job. Similarly, other jobs which are popular among students such as waiting table, cashier and delivery driving might not be advantageous to student's future jobs. If students want to plan for their future career, they should participate in many different extra - curricular activities such as voluntary or team sport activities, where they could acquire more challenging and applicable skills than doing a part - time job. Furthermore, doing a part - time job obviously has a negative effect on student's study results. High school curriculum is already extremely heavy because it demands lots of study hours. If students have a part - time job, they could not complete school work as a result of being fatigued and burnt out. In the case of my sister, after a five-hour work shift, she frequently felt frustrated and tired. She could not focus on school work, so her study results fell dramatically. After quitting work, my sister quickly regained previous academic performance. With the majority of high school students like my sister, studying by itself is already a full - time commitment, which should not be disrupted by a part - time job. To conclude, doing a part - time job does not bring any advantages to high school students, so they should not have a part time job at a young age. ESSAY 03: DISAGREE Some people believe that doing a part - time job brings many huge advantages to high school students. I strongly disagree with this idea since students might be exploited by their boss and value earning money above studying. For once, students might easily be exploited. It's unfortunately very common for students to fall into their boss trap because of their limited knowledge of law. When my sister was in grade 11, she worked at a restaurant. At first, her boss treated her very well. However, after the first month working at the restaurant, the boss took advantage of her lack of legal knowledge and forced her to work in a toxic environment. My sister frequently had to manage lots of work and work overtime without getting paid. She quitted the job after she realized herself was being exploited. High school students like my sister easily fall prey to evil bosses, who often take advantage of student’s naivety and ignorance to exploit them. Furthermore, doing a part time job makes students have a tendency to attach more importance to work and neglect their studying duty. Students might think studying is unnecessary because they could earn enough money to live from part - time jobs. A boy near my house started working when he was in grade 10. Because of a needy family, he had to find a part - time job at a very young age to cover their everyday needs. He did two part - time jobs at the same time and was able to cover his personal expenses as well as reduce family financial pressure. Although he was a high school student, he prioritized earning money. His studying results fell dramatically as a result of neglecting school work and he was expelled from school ultimately. With the majority of high school students like him, school work is their first priority and should not be disrupted by a part - time job. To conclude, doing a part - time job might have harmful consequences on students if they try to have a job at a young age. Day 4 ESSAY 1 Some people believe that the government should take actions to address the problem of children getting overweight. Personally, I strongly agree with this idea, since they can restrict access to junk food and build more playgrounds. Firstly, from a nutrition aspect, the government could impose restrictions on junk food. Because children are easily addicted to sugary food, convenience stores are forced to be located far from schools by the city authority to minimise sales. When I was in primary school, I used to constantly buy candies, snacks and ice cream on the way to school during recesses. As a result, I gained more than 10 kilograms in grade 3. At that time, many children were under the same situation as me. To reduce the obesity rate in children, the Ministry of Education banned all convenience stores within a 500-meter radius of all schools. It was difficult for us to get to the nearest stores, so the number of children getting overweight decreased considerably. Many children's BMI had gone back to normal because of the new rule of the Ministry of Education. Secondly, from an exercise aspect, the city authority could build more playgrounds. Currently, it is difficult for children to find a place to play, because most urban land has already been utilised for commercial and residential purposes. Building more playgrounds would cater for children's leisure activities. My neighbourhood, for example, used to have a high population density with few open spaces. As a result, children had to stay at home and play computer games all day. Last year, the Hanoi city council zoned a massive parking lot into a public park. The park was equipped with a variety of playing equipment such as grass fields, seesaws, swing sets, slides and monkey bars. Thanks to many similar developments like this around the city, children now could frolic and enjoy physical activities every afternoon. To conclude, for the reasons mentioned above, I believe it is possible for the government to take responsibility for reducing the obesity rate in children. (338 words) ESSAY 2 Some people believe that the government should take actions to address the problem of children getting overweight. I strongly disagree with this idea, since parents have a tremendous effect on children's eating habits and the government budget should prioritise spending on more important matters. Firstly, children’s eating habits are principally formed by their parents. Parents have been feeding children since they were a newborn baby, so they have an enormous impact on children's weight. My parents, for instance, are very busy and have no time for cooking. They used to take me to some fast food restaurants such as KFC and Lotteria. I ate a great deal of unhealthy food which contains a large amount of sugar and calories regularly. Eating calorie rich food to excess made me gain weight uncontrollably. My story is a typical example showing that our parents directly shape the way we eat, not an outside entity like the government. Secondly, there are much more pressing issues that need investment from the government. Child obesity is an inconsequential problem and should not account for an amount of the government's limited budget, especially in developing countries. In Vietnam, the percentage of overweight children is rising dramatically, however, this does not affect social welfare. Meanwhile, the government frequently has a tight budget, nevertheless, there are many serious issues that need to be addressed immediately such as poverty eradication, education for poor regions, improvement of traffic infrastructure and many other problems. Compared to the urgent problems above, the problem of children getting obesity obviously does not deserve having much-needed public money. To conclude, for the reasons mentioned above, I believe it is impossible for the government to take responsibility for reducing the obesity rate in children. (288 words) ESSAY 3 Some people believe that the government should take actions to address the problem of children getting overweight. I strongly disagree with this idea, since weight is decided by genetics and parents always prioritise children’s academic studies. Firstly, genetics determines one's weight. Due to the differences in each person's body, food absorption also varies. My friend, for example, has been on a diet for years. She exercises regularly and tries to eat healthy food. However, she is still obese and cannot lose weight because of genetic disease. Both of her parents are overweight so it is difficult for her to become slim. My friend's story is a typical example proving that the government is obviously unable to make children lose weight because they cannot decide children's ADN. Secondly, parents always consider children’s study results as the most important issue. Most parents think that children getting overweight does not matter, provided they have good study results. My neighbourhood is a typical example. A boy in the house has been overweight for years because of eating rich-calorie foods like fried chicken, hamburger to excess. However, his parents did not even care about that problem. Each time the boy had a good mark, the parents immediately took him to the restaurant to celebrate. The government undoubtedly cannot change parents’ mindset about weight management for children. To conclude, for the reasons mentioned above, I believe it is impossible for the government to take responsibility for reducing the obesity rate in children. (246 words) ESSAY 4 Some people believe that learning from the Internet can be much more beneficial for students than learning from their teachers. Personally, I strongly disagree with this idea, since the Internet provides high quality knowledge and learning on the Internet makes students feel more motivational. Firstly, the Internet supplies students with high quality knowledge. In class, teachers teach principally based on textbooks, so the students are unable to gain a better understanding of their subject. When I was in grade 9, we had one biology lesson per week. After learning general knowledge about genetic disease, I asked my teacher an in-depth question about the genetics of obesity, however, she could not give me an answer for that issue. When I came back home, I searched for related knowledge on the Internet and found the answer by a wordclass leading expert in the field. My story is a typical example showing that the Internet allows us access to virtually all of humanity’s finest knowledge. Secondly, learning on the internet motivates students to study harder. Most school curriculums teach academic stories that are theoretical in nature, nevertheless, on the Internet, there are many interesting contents that you can learn from. History subject, for example, is very boring and dry when studying at school because the teacher sticks to the textbook. However, on the Internet, there are many images and videos which demonstrate the historic occasion in a very interesting way. It not only summaries the occasion succinctly and concisely, but also makes students gain a better understanding of historical value through the images. The Internet is far more inspiring than any adult teachers. To conclude, for the reasons mentioned above, I believe that learning from the Internet makes students study more effectively. (289 words) ESSAY 5 Some people believe that learning from teachers can be much more beneficial for students than learning from the Internet. Personally, I strongly agree with this idea, since teachers not only could easily inspire students but also make them study more effectively. Firstly, teachers act as a role model for students. Teaching is a highly virtuous profession so it gains much respect from students. As a result, teachers could easily inspire and help students realise many valuable lessons in life. When I was small, I used to be a kleptomaniac. I stole my friends' things regularly without being caught. However, one day, I got caught by my teacher. She did not denounce me to the school managing board, she just calmly explained to me why I must not steal other people's things. After many hours talking to her, I realised that my behaviour was absolutely wrong and stopped doing that. If my teacher had not explained to me the negative consequences of my behaviour, I would not have changed myself to become a better person. Critical life lessons like this can only be taught by positive adult influences such as a teacher. Secondly, studying in class with teachers' instruction could make students study more effectively. On the internet, there are many distractions that prevent students from focusing on studying. However, studying in a classroom environment under the guidance of teachers could help students concentrate on their lessons and easily gain high-quality knowledge. Every time I study online, I cannot focus on the lessons and constantly check social media. Nevertheless, when studying in the class, mobile phone is banned and everybody must keep silent. There are books and study equipment around to promote students to study. As a result, students study more effectively because there is nothing that can distract them from studying anymore. In addition, whenever they have a question, teachers are beside, ready to answer and instruct them. For most young users like myself, the Internet is not ideal for academic purposes. To conclude, for the reasons mentioned above, I believe that learning from teachers is more suitable for students than from any other sources.
