Reflection Guidelines and Marking Criteria
MAY 2023
REFLECTION – 20%
Start: Week 1
Due Date: Week 6
In not more than 500 words, reflect on the topics you have covered in the course. You may take ONE(1)
or TWO(2) topics and examine them deeply, or more topics examined in less detail. Topics reflected
upon may include any information covered in class or the reading from the course. Writing should use
formal language and correct spelling and punctuation.
When writing, consider the following:

What have you studied that is interesting?

What new things have you learned?

How has your learning affected the preconceptions or misconceptions you brought with you
into class?

Will what you have learned to change your behavior in the future?
Ultimately writing these papers encourages you to find what is meaningful to you, thus adding value to
your learning. Do not simply outline or summarize the material we have covered. I want to know what
the material means to you.
DETAILED REQUIREMENTS FOR ASSIGNMENT
1. This coursework is an individual task. You are advised to discuss your work regularly with your
supervisor to ensure targets are met.
2. No duplication of assignments from other coursework is allowed.
3. Plagiarism in any form will not be tolerated. All borrowed ideas must be acknowledged and
properly cited.
4. Cite the source of the text and any references you used using the APA format. Referencing is part
of the assessment.
5. Your work should be typewritten with double spacing and font Arial size 11.
6. The cover page should have the following information:

Name

Matrix Number

Title of Essay (Topic numbers)

Lecturer’s name
7. You should adhere to the deadline. Without an approved extension of time, late submissions will
not be entertained.

Viewpoints and interpretations are insightful and well-supported. Clear, detailed
examples are provided, as applicable.
Writing is mostly clear, concise, and well organized, with good
sentence/paragraph construction. Thoughts are expressed in a coherent and
logical manner.

Response shows strong evidence of synthesis of ideas presented and insights
gained throughout the entire course.
Response demonstrates a general reflection on, and personalization of, the
theories, concepts, and/or strategies presented in the course materials to date.
Viewpoints and interpretations are supported. Appropriate examples are
provided, as applicable.
Writing is mostly clear, concise, and well organized, with good
sentence/paragraph construction. Thoughts are expressed in a coherent and
logical manner.

Response shows evidence of synthesis of ideas presented and insights gained
throughout the entire course.
Response demonstrates a minimal reflection on and personalization of the
theories, concepts, and/or strategies presented in the course materials to date.
Viewpoints and interpretations are unsupported or supported with flawed
arguments. Examples, when applicable, are not provided or are irrelevant to the
assignment.
Writing is unclear and/or disorganized. Thoughts are not expressed in a logical
manner.

Response demonstrates a lack of reflection on, or personalization of, the theories,
concepts, and/or strategies presented in the course materials to date.
