Introduction to the Organization

EY-Parthenon professionals recognize that CEOs and business leaders are tasked with achieving
maximum value for their organizations’ stakeholders in this transformative age.3 Whether pursuing
scale, new technology or entry into new markets, they can help achieve an organization’s strategic
objectives through mergers and acquisitions (M&A), divestitures and joint ventures.4
Job Analysis
Echoing the company’s vision and values, the role of the Strategy and Transaction(SaT) team is key
to their success. They are one of the only major professional consulting organizations that offers
fully-dedicated multidisciplinary M&A advisory capabilities. From strategy to execution, their
services are underpinned by extensive due diligence, commercial, operational, financial and tax
experience.5
I conducted a Structured Interview with a manager from this team, and based on his responses I have
created a job analysis for this job.
During the interview, I recorded the interviewee’s responses (included in Appendix 1) to ensure that
the responses were accurate. Also, having gone through EY’s values, digital footprint, people’s
policies, etc. I was able to probe the interviewer for detailed responses.
Some of my observations about the job are:
 It involves a detailed analysis on each project, employing a wide range of people.
 There is a variety of skills put into action every single day. For example: skill in maintaining
reports, skill in dealing with diverse teams and stakeholders, organizational skills, effective
communication, etc.
 The company monitors your progress closely, and the performance metrices are analysed
periodically.
 There is a constant need to stay abreast with the emerging industry trends to maximize the result
of strategic planning.
 The work does not require strenuous physical activity however, there are ergonomic
considerations.
 The team functions in a hybrid model and requires the incumbent to be in office for meetings.
 The incumbent also needs to perform an evaluation of the procedures followed, to ensure that
there were no legal complications involved.
Based on my analysis of the job, I have created the job description, KSAOs, education and
experience required to do the job, and job advertisement.
Job Description
Within EY's Strategy and Transactions (SaT) practice, the Transaction Strategy and Execution (TSE)
team provides a full range of operationally focused services including integration, carve-out/standalone costs assessment and risks, IT due diligence, operational restructuring, 100-day planning and
value-creation. Transaction Strategy and Execution works with cross-functional teams made up of
members of both the acquiring and acquired organizations.6
Reporting to the Senior Manager, a Manager (Transaction Strategy and Execution) has following the
primary responsibilities:



Identify business development opportunities and assist Partners and Senior Managers on
proposals and new business opportunities.
Assist in identifying risks and issues related to integration planning, timelines, and functional
areas.
Lead workstreams and engagements, translating client needs into project tasks and deliverables,
manage day-to-day problem-solving and team analytical activities, and serve as key liaisons
between consulting team members, Partners, and our clients.7
Salient working conditions:




This position requires a willingness and ability to travel.
The organization offers hybrid working environment with 2-3 days in office when meeting with
clients/ partners/ team members.
The regular shift is between 9 am to 5pm EST on weekdays.

Job Specifications (including rationale)
Knowledge of:
 integrations, carve-outs, and other types of transaction engagements
 core operational functions (such as IT, supply chain, finance, sales & marketing, HR etc.)
 management consultancy in a corporate environment
 cost optimisation, and quantitative and qualitative analysis
The above knowledge will help the incumbent in helping the company understand best path to
growth and competitive advantage. They can also help companies move quickly to refine their
growth strategy, perform deal sourcing, conduct diligence and valuation and achieve greater
synergies during M&A integration. 8
Skill in:
 client engagement teams
 project execution, including synergy assessment, project management, problem-solving, and
facilitation
 preparing presentations and attending pursuit meetings with clients to help sell work
 supervising, training and mentoring team members
The above skills will help the incumbent in maintaining a positive team environment while
achieving maximum output.
Ability to:
 make detailed assessments of operations or manufacturing infrastructure
 determine risks and opportunity areas
 synthesize approaches to complex integration conflicts
 adhere to the company’s code of conduct and other legal standards
These competencies are required to carry out the day-to-day activities without disruptions. They also
allow the incumbent to function without having to deal with any legal implications.

When leading a team, it is imperative for the candidate to possess the above competencies and soft
skills.
Education And Experience:
 A bachelor's degree (business, finance, supply chain, engineering, computer science or related
field, etc.) and approximately 5 years of related work experience; or equivalent work experience
 Professional services / consulting experience
 Experience related to transactions (ideally due diligence, carve-out or integrations experience)
 Related certification is a plus
The education and technical expertise is crucial to the success of this job. Also, the professional
experience will give the incumbent an exposure to handle similar situations at workplace, and resolve
issue in a timely manner. Additional certifications give the incumbent hands-on knowledge and a
competitive edge over other candidates.

Further to the job analysis process, I would advertise the above job as follows:






Use clear language and concise bullet points to highlight key details, that candidates may
search for, making it easier for them to find your job posting.
Select the most suitable platforms to reach your desired candidate pool. These could be paid
or free depending on the budget and target audience. In this case, I would consider using
Indeed and LinkedIn.
Promote the job opening on EY’s career page and share it across their social media profiles.
This would allow to reach a wider audience, including individuals who already have an
interest in the company.
Ensure that there are all necessary details required by law, and it’s inclusive.
Emphasize the company's unique culture, values, and any standout benefits or perks to attract
candidates who align with the organization's ethos.
Clearly state how candidates should apply, whether it's through an online application form,
email, or another method. I would include the necessary contact details or website links, and
a deadline for submissions.

A Manager from Transaction Strategy and Execution (TSE) team provides a full range of

 Proficient in the English language, both in writing and verbally, in a professional environment.
 Experience in business process re-engineering, cost optimisation, business integrations, with a
demonstrated aptitude for quantitative and qualitative analysis.11
 Effective organization and time management skills with ability to work under pressure and
adhere to project deadlines.

1. How does your educational background relate to your current position? Have you
completed any specific courses certifications or training that are relevant to perform this
role?

Education:
Post Graduate Program in Management (MBA) from Great Lakes Institute of Management, Specialization was in Energy Management and Marketing.
The above courses have allowed me to build foundational business and investment related
skillset, and industry knowledge. However, a lot of my role requires strong client facing, project
handling skills which come from experience and on-the-job learning.
In addition to this, I have pursued the following certifications to help me consume, synthesize
and report on large amounts of information in a thoughtful and insightful manner, well presented
keeping the client audience in mind.
2. What are your primary responsibilities as a manager? Walk me through your typical
workday, specifying tasks that you complete from the beginning to the end of your shift.
 Provide transaction consulting services to the clients which include operational due diligence,
synergy assessment and delivery, day-one readiness assessment, 100-day planning, integration
process support, carve-out/stand-alone costs assessment and risks, and cost reduction
 Lead business transformation and growth opportunities for the clients, bringing measurable
impact for financial growth and operations performance improvement







Clients are primarily from the Power & Utilities sector
On a typical workday I carry out the following activities:
Conduct engagement meetings with clients, stakeholders and team members.
Organize team analytical activities and manage day-to-day conflict resolution.
Review the deadlines for projects.
Review transaction rationale and/or deal documents to identify critical business issues, and risks
relating to a transaction.
Manage and motivate workstreams and teams with diverse skills and backgrounds.
Develop, manage, and mentor junior team members at the consultant levels.
3. How do you stay updated on market trends, industry developments, and competitive
landscape to identify potential value creation opportunities?




I use the following sources to stay updated on market trends:
Reading industry trends and reports (CapitalIQ, Market Merger, other news websites)
Browsing through company websites and reports (Financial and Investor Reports) and Analysts
Reports
Client meetings and networking events (Conferences etc.)
