Standard Operating Procedure (SOP): ● Purpose: SOPs are detailed documents that provide step-by-step instructions on how to perform specific tasks or processes within an organization. They ensure consistency, compliance, and efficiency in operations by serving as a reference guide for employees. Personally I had to set up some as a part of my job as Chair Recruitment in the NJIT Student Ambassadors Organization in order to help new hires navigate their job duties. Policy Documents: ● Purpose: Policy documents outline the rules, guidelines, and procedures that govern an organization's operations. They establish a framework for decision-making and ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards. From my perspective, I feel like this is the type of technical writing I would struggle with the most. Minutes of Meetings: ● Purpose: Meeting minutes document discussions, decisions, and action items during business meetings. They serve as a record of what transpired and provide a reference for follow-up actions. As a Secretary of the NJIT soccer club, that’s one of my duties. I have to take notes in any meetings that we have in the club. Notes include: Topics of discussion, Actions need to be taken and next meeting date. Technical Reports: ● Purpose: Technical reports are comprehensive documents that convey research findings, project progress, or analytical data. They are used to communicate complex information to a specific audience, such as stakeholders, peers, or decision-makers. Last summer, I had an internship with a company called Weeks Marine, my title was Staff Engineer Intern. After performing certain jobs/ work that my supervisor asked me to complete, I had to write a detailed technical report that includes all the procedures, calculations and observations of the work performed.
