Case study cards Theme: Motivation Case study 1. The teacher is training a group of students for international exam IELTS. They’ve been training for 3 months. At last they passed their exam and got target scores. However, a teacher decided to present headphones to student who got the highest score. Has it motivated other students to try harder next time to get a present from teacher? Case study 2. The problem of motivation is under much discussion among teachers. Some teachers think that it is right, for example, to give candies for a right answer of students, others disagree with them, considering that students should learn not for a present, but for a knowledge. To what extent do you agree? Case study 3. Alex is studying hard at school. He’s doing his best, sometimes he gets A’s sometimes C’s. He doesn’t have enough motivation to try harder. How is it possible to get motivation from learning? Case study 4. A teacher asks learners to read a book in a week and adds that who would read it as quickly as he could get a prize. Some learners can finish it in a week, a teacher has only one present. What should he do in this situation? Case study 5. Alex is learning English because he wants to study abroad. Suddenly, they started to motivate each other by saying very good or well-done! Case study 7. Students suppose that to reach something it's highly recommended to have a base motvation. For example, grades, present from parents or teachers. But they do not understand that all cen be reached without a motivation, when you transform your motivation into a habit. How do you think? He understands that noways it is getting harder and harder to motivate learners to learn his subject, especially to motivates rich children because they almost have everything they need, and also their parents can buy any thing they wish.
