Content Standards
The learner demonstrates understanding of the range of research topics in the area of
inquiry, the value of research in the area of interest and the specificity and feasibility of the
problem posed.
Performance Standards
The learner is able to formulate clearly the statement of research problem.

Topic: Purpose Statement and Research Questions
Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

 develop research questions for your research project.

1. The students will read and analyze sample research questions in each set and identify the
most suitable for research.
2. The students should be able to justify their choice in each set of questions.
3. Based on the sample questions provided, the students should be able to distinguish
central and sub questions and the ways to formulate effective questions.

central question and 3 sub-questions using the title “Serving Two Masters: A Reflective
Narrative of Reconciling the Tension Faced in Designing Doctoral Research”.

Activity #5: Meet and Greet: Writing Purpose Statements and Formulating Questions
1. The students will write their own purpose statement based on their chosen research topic.
2. After that, the students will formulate central questions and 3 sub-questions based on their
approved purpose statement.
