Over the last weeks Inter Milan’s Andre Onana has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford as United look to replace David de Gea with a keeper who suits Erik Ten Hag’s style of play. De Gea’s £375,000-a-week comes to a close. As soon as Man Utd realised they would not be able to sign a proven striker like Harry Kane or Victor Oshimen for around £90£100 million they turned their sights on a top class goal keeper and a cheaper striker. Erik Ten Hag understands that De Gea will not be a part of his long term plans and so he has taken the opportunity to reunite with Onana who he worked with at Ajax. The pair won multiple Eredivisie titles together and also accomplished a fairy tale run in the Champions League where Ajax were unlucky against Tottenham Hotspurs in the 2018/19 season. Negotiations between Inter and United continue with there being a high chance of Onana moving to Manchester. Only yesterday did United have a bid of £34 million plus £5 million in add-ons rejected. It failed to reach Inter’s £55 million valuation for the Cameroonian. Although Onana has been a key player for Inter they will sell for the right price as Onana too is keen on the move. Onana would fit right into Erik Ten hag’s transition and possession based style of play with the goalkeeper having an excellent passing range along with pin-point accuracy. Onana’s passing would definitely improve United’s chance creation by getting Rashford, Garnacho and Antony in behind the opposition's defence. Onana’s confidence with the ball while being pressured by the opposition forward players would also allow Erik Ten Hag to play position based football the way he did with Ajax. Whatever the price is for Onana he will have some big shoes to fill and will have to hit the ground running. Though his confidence and elite mentality will definitely help him achieve great honours with United. Onana himself said in an interview last season before the Champions League final- he’s only afraid of “God”. There is a huge chance of Onana joining United for around £54 million in the coming day with Ten hag pushing to get him in time for United’s tour of the USA.
