Leopold’s maneuver- (squish the baby for positioning)
In the office during prenatal care, they always measure and listen with the doppler to hear
the fetal heartbeat
Apply ultrasonic gel for ultrasound after doing Leopold’s maneuver
External versus internal fetal monitors
Internal monitors are more accurate than external monitors
Have to monitor both maternal and fetal heartrate
110-160bpm typical fetal heartrate
60-100bpm typical maternal heartrate
Can’t look at it as an EKG- it’s a tracing of heartbeat only (EFM strip)
Variable deceleration-caused by cord compression- manage by maternal repositioning

