Journal 7: Reflection on the Research Process
Thousands of articles, newspapers, and different media sources to choose from for the
paper. There really is a vast amount of information to use for the paper. However, it is not a super
straightforward and simple process when it comes to picking the source material. After watching
the video provided to us by the librarian, it became easy to navigate the BHCC library database.
However, it was actually hard to get a specific result for my paper. Perhaps what I was looking
for was too specific, but I ended up getting repeated results. I did find very useful materials, but
it took a long time. I like the fact that there are multiple databases and websites. That really
helped me out. Another thing that I liked was that they provided a summary of the article or
source material making it super easy to read and understand what the article was about. I feel that
searching for the source material is where a lot of skill takes place. Depending on how you word
your search, it will give you exactly what you need or something not relevant. That is something
I still need to work on and am glad to be able to practice this opportunity while researching for
this paper. Although it was hard, I am pleased with the materials I found. To be honest, I wish
some were a little bit more specific and more relevant to my topic, but this is something I can
always look more into. I used a lot of newspaper articles for this paper, but I want to learn how to
use other types of source materials like videos. Being able to incorporate videos as a source
material would be a creative way to cite materials. I might meet with the librarian just to increase
my knowledge in source material finding. This skill set will be useful in future English classes.
Hopefully I can learn a lot more and use it to greatly improve my paper.
