Multi-Genre Project Planning Example
Project’s Focus
My multi-genre project will focus on gender inequality and the bias against women in the book.
Although Gatsby and Daisy appear to have an equal relationship, there is still disparity between
the sexes. Gatsby tries to dominate and control Daisy as he persuades her to travel with him
rather than Tom. This can also be seen as patriarchal dominance-related oppression of female
characters.
A. Working Thesis
The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, depicts bigotry towards women based on their gender,
social class, and how women's views were not appreciated throughout the time period of the
book.
B. The Formal Written Element
For my formal written element, I will write a 2.5-3 page, minimum 750 word formal essay that
explores my thesis statement. I will have 3 body paragraphs and the main ideas of each will
include the 3 main points included in my thesis: bias because of gender, bias because of social
class and how women’s voices were not being heard.
C. Audio/Video Element
I will record an audio file from the point of view of Daisy. The East Egg, Tom and Daisy's
opulent neighborhood home, is first introduced to the readers at the opening of the narrative. In
addition to serving as a wonderful example of social class and nobility, East Egg also portrays
patriarchal culture. While Daisy is unemployed in her marriage, Tom is reportedly the "heir to
one of America's wealthiest families." Daisy feels oppressed in her own marriage as a result of
her total dependence on Tom. Daisy doesn't need to work a single job to help the family's
finances. According to liberal feminism, even though it may appear that women benefit most
from the patriarchal system, they are unaware that their husbands oppress them. For instance,
Daisy is instructed not to make a scene even though she is aware of the affair between her
husband and Myrtle. Since they are portrayed as being less powerful than their husbands, women
are unable to assert their rights. In patriarchal societies, husbands are in charge of all
relationship-related decisions, especially in marriage. Women are denied their rights; Because
their husband has provided them with everything they need, they are obligated to obey him. As a
result, their husband also takes them as a possession; the ones who are manageable.
D. Creative Written Element
I will write a short diary entry as Daisy talking about her journey throughout the novel and how
she feels about the way she was treated by other men during the book.
E. Repetend
For the repetend, I will draw a creative picture reflecting women's inequality.
