Values and beliefs are extremely important in leadership because they help to shape a leader's approach to decision-making, communication, and relationship-building. A leader's values and beliefs influence their behavior and actions and can have a significant impact on the success or failure of their leadership. All of my life I have learnt so many values, which has given me a vision and more courage to bring that same vision to life. A. I remember in high school; I was shouldered with the responsibility of being the School Prefect. There were mixed emotions whether I will be able to handle them properly or not. Through the course of time, I learnt to manage and maintain every work. Being the Prefect, it was my morale responsibility to ensure discipline in school, solve conflicts among my colleagues and juniors and encourage them at every step and respect everyone. As part of my role in overseeing interhouse activities, I made it my responsibility to encourage students to work diligently and maintain their confidence throughout. Over the course of time, I learnt that a leader who shows love and care for their team members is more likely to build strong relationships and earn the trust and respect of their followers. It is essential to value honesty and transparency which creates a culture of open communication and accountability. B. I am someone who always believes in learning. I wish to create more equality between my team members to promote diversity and inclusiveness to create positive work environment. This will encourage more innovation and creativity. Furthermore, I will try to express more gratitude towards my team members to establish a sense of appreciation and loyalty. We have often heard a saying ‘With great power, comes responsibility’. I want to be someone who is driven by the desire to make a positive impact, and not become prone to micromanaging or being overly controlling. Power should be used a responsible and an ethical way. 2. I am so thankful to this course for enhancing my leadership knowledge. I remember attending a leadership camp few years back, which guided us to take some time to reflect on our personal values and beliefs and determine how they align with our leadership style. All my personal experiences have reinforced my understanding of the importance of values like honesty, loyalty, kindness, humbleness, and trustworthiness. As a leader, I will take full responsibility for my actions and be accountable for any mistakes. In a leadership role, your actions should demonstrate your commitment to your beliefs and help build trust with those around you. Moving forward, one thing which I will practice more is seeking feedback from my team to gain insight into how my actions are perceived. It is very important for a leader to communicate well among their members. It will help me to identify areas where I need to improve and align with my values, creating a culture that supports my goals. For my approach, I would try to focus more on egalitarian leadership because I feel like that is the need of the hour. It is focused on equality and treating everyone fairly. (Northouse, 2021). Practising this style of leadership will help in minimizing power differentials and work to create an environment where everyone has equal input and decision-making authority.
