Dear Mr. Downs I Steven Kilangi am writing this letter to address my application for Head Boy, Deputy Head boy and Boarding prefect. I believe I qualify for these profound roles for the following academic and extracurricular reasons. Firstly, I have been in this fine establishment for 6 years and in my time here I was able to achieve the following academic wise. In my interview exam I was able to get three A’s from the subjects English, Science and Math despite coming from a much different education system. It was just the beginning of my successful academic campaign. For my checkpoint examinations I was able to score 6 out of 6 in Mathematics, 5.3 out of 6 in Science and 4.1 out of 6 in English, which are seemingly competent grades. For my IGCSE’s, I took seven subjects and got one A* in Science, Four A’s in: Mathematics, Business, Economics and Swahili. Finally, I got two B’s from English and ICT. Most of my IGCSE predicted grades were much lower than what I generally achieved. This is because I was falling short on my true capabilities. Despite all that, I was able to make an academic comeback as I tend to be very driven towards my goals and can accomplish anything I put my mind on. Other academic accomplishments include participating in two spelling bees and I accumulated fifteen end of term academic certificates for both effort and achievement for various subject over the course of my six years at IISM. My involvement in extracurricular activities hasn’t been a minor one. My participation in Saturday school has stretched for over 5 years. During my time in Saturday school I was able to fully dedicate myself in giving the kids an amazing experience and teaching them new skills in art and dancing and further pushing them to excel in multiple sports such as football, basketball and swimming. I was greatly involved in aiding many Saturday school events free of charge and willing to support an amazing cause. Though I am still a new member in community service and Red Cross, I was able to still be a vital part of it, participating in multiple charity events for community service and even scoring higher in the end of year Red Cross examination compared to most of my subordinates who have been in the club much longer. I participated in the science fair for three times. Though I never won each time, I was able to express my inovation skills by lighting a bulb with a potatoe, etc. Throughout my three attempts I was able to work well with my partners and was generally supportive towards my peers. I have participated in The Charity fair for 6 years, each year more dedicated than the other. Even though most of my classmates were slacking off I maintained a high and commited spirit towards making our class project for charity fair a success. My past experiences as a leader include being boarding prefect for a whole year despite just being in year 12 beating many year 13’s to it. It is mainly because my fellow students in boarding understand my character better than most people ; they know how I am quite a serious individual, willing to listen, disciplined, honest, full of charisma and with exceptional problem solving skills. These came in handy during my one year as boarding prefect as I continuously voiced my fellow subordinates voices, demanded change when needed and tackled a big conflict between two of my surbordinates which I was succeful in eliminating the conflict through excellent communication skills and a functional advise. As I am writing this I have the full support of my fellow boarding students who are vouching for my success. Other experiences as a leader is my currently appointed role of Head of Seniors in Zanzibar. It was rather appropriate due to my visible loyalty and passion for the house, helping my house win the house competitions for 4 years in a row. This was due to my willingness to join challenging races for my house which further pushed more of my housemates to also be more willing to paticipate and give their absolute most. For example, last year’s swimming gala I participated in race which I knew I would not perform very well. Though I came last, the willingness to do the race made my subordinates worry less about losing and simply enjoy participating. In addition, my participation in the school drama play, “Animal Farm” further strengthened my ability to work as a team and learn how to communicate best with people while understanding their weaknesses and strenths. In my 6 years in IISM, I have never been involved in any fights or events associating with breaking the school rules, as I maintained a healthy relationship with all my teachers and fellow students. I hope I will be blessed with the opportunity to be head boy, deputy head boy or boarding prefect as I believe I have quite a lot to offer. Sincerely, Steven Kilangi.
