Learner’s Tasks Lesson Overview With the advancement of technology, the internet has created opportunity for media and information in terms of use, access, delivery, and application. And taking part in the information society is vital for nation building. Different media and information platforms are available online for storage and access. And with its significant growth in usage rate, it is the responsibility of users, especially the children and the young, to make use of its advantages and most importantly, identify the possible threats that come along with it. Empowering and educating the children and the young people on how to properly manage the risks related to internet is the best protection there is. Table 1. There exists a limit threshold as to what extent one can exercise this right. Common limitations or boundaries to freedom of speech relate to libel, slander, obscenity, pornography, sedition, incitement, fighting words, classified information, copyright violation, trade secrets, food labeling, non-disclosure agreements, the right to privacy, dignity, the right to be forgotten, public security and perjury. The need to educate oneself in properly engaging with the internet in all matters that concern media and information is important. It depends on the users to make the most of the information found on the internet, utilizing it empower Filipino citizens and protect each one from mishandling this powerful tool in this digitalized age. Format and points • Citation – 3 points • Summary of event (4-6 sentences) – 5 points • Reaction (5-7 sentences) – 7 points The task of the media, especially national media outlets, is not and should not be to function as a mouthpiece for any government body or particular candidate. Its basic role is to enlighten and educate the public and act as a neutral, objective platform for the free debate of all points of view. 1 2 Reaction Guide Questions: 1.
