EDL 710 Leading Teaching and Assessment Activity Assignment #3 Module 6 Canary Pruitt Description: For this assignment, refer to your submitted work for Activity Assignment #1. Using the performance assessment information from that assignment, complete the following: for Activity 3.1, simply relist the learning target you used for that assignment with any recommended edits completed; in Activity 3.2, give a more detailed account of the performance assessment. Don’t forget to create an outcome in student friendly language. 1. Activity 3.1 List learning target(s) that can be assessed using a performance assessment. Remember to include a student-friendly version of the learning target. Learning target: Students will be able to identify, define, and recognize hazard symbols. Student friendly version: Given a chemical, I can identify, recognize, and define the hazard symbols. 2. Activity 3.2 Give a brief overview and explanation of the performance assessment you would assign to evaluate student understanding of the learning assessment. 1. The performance assessment I would assign is a laboratory investigation. The students will use different “chemicals” that will be labeled with hazard symbols on them. I won’t use the actual chemicals until they 100% know the hazards symbols and are able to identify them. Then I will have instructions for them that will instruct them to do place the “chemical” or mix the “chemical” with something that could be a hazard. Doing this will show me if they can point out the potential hazard before executing it and if they can identify the hazard symbols. 3. Activity 3.3 Using the power point “Seven Strategies of Assessment for Learning”, complete the following: List two self-assessment strategies (strategy 4) that you would teach students to use during the performance assessment you have given and tell why. - The two self-assessment strategies I would use are letting my students identify strengths and areas of improvement. Also, allowing my students to keep a journal and record it at the end of class. These strategies allow EDL 710 Leading Teaching and Assessment all students to feel comfortable instead of asking their thoughts altogether. They can tell you their thoughts privately in the journal because a lot of students aren’t comfortable sharing their thoughts out loud. List one focused revision strategy (strategy 6) you would have students use during the performance assessment you have given and tell why. - I would have my students analyze my work for quality and make suggestions for improvement. This strategy will allow me to see how each student’s approach differs and if they list the same improvement strategies. They can point out the mistakes and compare them to their mistakes or see how they can improve their work. List one self-reflection strategy (strategy 7) you would have students use at the end of the performance assessment you have given and tell why. - I would let my students keep their own log of mastery towards a learning target. This strategy will not only allow my students to learn some responsibility, they are able to know and see how far they are with mastering the learning target.
