PM Gati Shakti
Prime Minister launched PM Gati Shakti - National Master Plan
for Multi-modal Connectivity on 13th October 2021, essentially
a digital platform to bring 16 Ministries including Railways and
Roadways together for integrated planning and coordinated
implementation of infrastructure connectivity projects.The
multi-modal connectivity will provide integrated and seamless
connectivity for movement of people, goods and services from
one mode of transport to another. It will facilitate the last mile
connectivity of infrastructure and also reduce travel time for
people.
Vision of PM Gati Shakti:
PM Gati Shakti will incorporate the infrastructure schemes of
various Ministries and State Governments
like Bharatmala, Sagarmala, inland waterways, dry/land
ports, UDAN etc. Economic Zones like textile clusters,
pharmaceutical clusters, defence corridors, electronic parks,
industrial corridors, fishing clusters, agri zones will be covered
to improve connectivity & make Indian businesses more
competitive. It will also leverage technology extensively
including spatial planning tools with ISRO (Indian Space
Research Organisation) imagery developed by BiSAGN (Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications
and Geoinformatics).
6 Pillars of PM Gati Shakti
Comprehensiveness: It will include all the existing and planned
initiatives of various Ministries and Departments with one
centralized portal. Each and every Department will now have
visibility of each other's activities providing critical data while
planning & execution of projects in a comprehensive manner.
Prioritization: Through this, different Departments will be able
to prioritize their projects through cross-sectoral interactions.
Optimization: The National Master Plan will assist different
ministries in planning for projects after identification of critical
gaps. For the transportation of the goods from one place to
another, the plan will help in selecting the most optimum route
in terms of time and cost.
Synchronization: Individual Ministries and Departments often
work in silos. There is lack of coordination in planning and
implementation of the project resulting in delays. PM Gati
Shakti will help in synchronizing the activities of each
department, as well as of different layers of governance, in a
holistic manner by ensuring coordination of work between them.
Analytical: The plan will provide the entire data at one place
with GIS based spatial planning and analytical tools having
200+ layers, enabling better visibility to the executing agency.
Dynamic: All Ministries and Departments will now be able to
visualize, review and monitor the progress of cross-sectoral
projects, through the GIS platform, as the satellite imagery will
give on-ground progress periodically and progress of the
projects will be updated on a regular basis on the portal. It will
help in identifying the vital interventions for enhancing and
updating the master plan.

Physics
Alain Aspect (France)
John F. Clauser (US)
Anton Zeilinger (Austria)
“for experiments with entangled photons, establishing the violation of
Bell inequalities and pioneering quantum information science”.These
experiments have laid the foundations of a new era of quantum computers
and information technology, which will usher in the fourth industrial
revolution.
Chemistry
Barry Sharpless (US) and Morten Meldal(Denmark) are awarded the
Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2022 because they brought chemistry into the
era of functionalism and laid the foundations of click chemistry. They
share the prize with Carolyn Bertozzi(US), who took click chemistry to
a new dimension and began using it to map cells. Her bioorthogonal
reactions are now contributing to more targeted cancer treatments, among
many other applications.
Medicine
Svante Pääbo (Sweden)
“for his discoveries concerning the genomes of extinct hominins and
human evolution”
Through his pioneering research, Svante Pääbo accomplished something
seemingly impossible: sequencing the genome of the Neanderthal, an
extinct relative of present-day humans. He also made the sensational
discovery of a previously unknown hominin, Denisova. Importantly,
Pääbo also found that gene transfer had occurred from these now extinct
hominins to Homo sapiens following the migration out of Africa around
70,000 years ago. This ancient flow of genes to present-day humans has
physiological relevance today, for example affecting how our immune
system reacts to infections.

weighing up to 300 kilograms. The current variants of the missile have
about 500 kilometers of range. However, the range of the export version
of the missile is capped at 290 kilometers to comply with the Missile
Technology Control Regime (MTCR) restrictions of 300 kilometers.
Nord Stream leak
On September 26, 2022, a severe drop in pressure was found in both NS1
and NS2 and it was associated with a rupture in both pipes due
to sabotage. None of the pipes are currently operational.
Nord Stream is a network of offshore natural
gas pipelines in Europe which run under the Baltic
Sea from Russia to Germany. It comprises two separate projects, Nord
Stream 1 and 2. Both pipelines each comprise two pipes, NS1 A and B as
well as NS2 A and B, for a total of 4 physical pipes.
Nord Stream 1 (NS1) entered in service in 2011 and it is a 1,224 km
underwater gas pipeline running from Vyborg in northwest Russia to
Lubmin in northeastern Germany via the Baltic Sea. The majority owned
by the Russian energy giant Gazprom, it is the primary network through
which gas reaches Germany.
Nord Stream 2 (NS2): 1200km pipeline runs from Ust-Luga in
northwestern Russia (near Estonia border) to Greifswald in Germany
through the Baltic Sea and carry 55 billion cubic metres of gas per year. It
was meant to run along with the Nord Stream 1 system. The pipeline was
built in order to increase gas exports towards Europe, aiming to double
annual capacity. The project was started in 2015 by Gazprom and five
other European firms and completed in 2021, but has not yet entered
service.
Note: Germany is Russia’s biggest European gas consumer, and most of
it comes through the Nord Stream.
