Republic of the Philippines Department of Education REGION V - BICOL SCHOOLS DIVISION OFFICE OF CATANDUANES CARAMORAN SCHOOL OF FISHERIES REFLECTION NOTES on LAC SESSION One of the topics discussed during our LAC Session “Challenges and Difficulties Encountered in SY 2022-2023” pointed out the need to established safe and secure learning environments to enhance learning through the consistent implementation of policies, guidelines, and procedures.” I was quite interested in and motivated by the issue as a participant in the LAC on creating safe and secure learning environments to boost learning. Personally I experienced dealing with such incidents when I was assigned as Officer-In-Charge in the first month of School Year. One incident of mulling between 2 students and another incident that involved our co-teacher whom one student posted online a story where she seemed bored and took a video of our co-teacher during their lesson. Here are my notes for reflection, colored by my experience: Throughout the LAC, I came to understand how crucial it is to have clearly defined policies, rules, and processes in place in order to establish a secure learning environment. As a teacher, I frequently see the benefits of having clear standards and regular procedures on the wellbeing and academic development of my students. It was comforting to learn more about this subject and the real advantages these frameworks offer educational rights and accountabilities. The LAC also stressed the crucial part that teachers play in encouraging good mental health in their children. Teachers are in a unique position to observe children' emotional health because they work directly with them on a regular basis. This insight made me think about how I may better incorporate psychosocial support into my teaching and my personal activities. Some of the tactics that spoke to me were including mindfulness practices, encouraging open communication, and offering resources for mental health education. Teachers must prioritize their own health as well since doing so will help them foster a safe and compassionate learning environment for their students. ALVIN R. Throughout this academic year, I have consistently applied my personal philosophy of teaching, which is firmly rooted in being learner-centered. This approach has transformed my classroom into a dynamic space where students are actively involved in the teaching-learning process. As I look back, I am pleased to share the highlights of my learner-centered approach across the four quarters. Quarter 1: Laying the Foundation At the beginning of the academic year, I focused on creating a welcoming and inclusive classroom environment. My goal was to establish strong rapport with my students, to understand their individual strengths, challenges, and aspirations. By doing so, I could tailor my lesson plans to meet their unique needs, interests, and learning styles. During this quarter, I integrated various teaching methods, such as group discussions, projectbased learning, and hands-on activities, to stimulate critical thinking and creativity. One of the remarkable outcomes was witnessing how the students became more engaged with the subject matter. They actively participated in discussions, asked insightful questions, and collaborated with their peers. This involvement not only bolstered their confidence but also fostered a sense of ownership over their learning journey. Quarter 2: Embracing Technology Building on the foundation laid in the first quarter, I decided to leverage technology to enhance the learning experience. I introduced online resources, interactive simulations, and educational apps that catered to diverse learning preferences. Additionally, I encouraged students to utilize digital tools to showcase their understanding creatively. This integration of technology not only strengthened their cAddress Email School ID : Hitoma, Caramoran, Catanduanes : 302082@deped.gov.p; Bernardo.bosque@deped.gov.ph : 302082 Republic of the Philippines Department of Education REGION V - BICOL SCHOOLS DIVISION OFFICE OF CATANDUANES CARAMORAN SCHOOL OF FISHERIES digital literacy but also allowed them to explore real-world applications of the concepts they learned. The positive impact was evident during our community work project. Students took the initiative to use technology to conduct surveys and research, and they collaborated on designing and implementing sustainable solutions for a local issue. Witnessing their enthusiasm and commitment to making a difference in the community was truly inspiring. Quarter 3: Encouraging Self-Discovery In the third quarter, I shifted my focus towards empowering students to take charge of their learning journey. I aimed to cultivate a growth mindset by emphasizing the importance of resilience and learning from mistakes. Students were encouraged to set personal goals and reflect on their progress regularly. I provided constructive feedback and supported them in identifying areas for improvement. By fostering a safe and nurturing environment, students felt more comfortable stepping out of their comfort zones. Their increased self-awareness allowed them to recognize their potential and embrace challenges with enthusiasm. I noticed an upsurge in students seeking additional resources and taking the initiative to explore topics beyond the curriculum. Quarter 4: Cultivating Collaboration and Leadership During the final quarter, I focused on promoting collaboration and leadership skills. I organized group projects that required students to work together, make decisions collectively, and communicate effectively. They took on different roles within their teams, which allowed them to recognize and appreciate diverse strengths. The results were truly remarkable. Students learned not only from me but also from their peers. They presented their projects confidently, each member contributing to the overall success. Witnessing their growth as not just learners but as leaders within their groups was immensely gratifying. cAddress Email School ID : Hitoma, Caramoran, Catanduanes : 302082@deped.gov.p; Bernardo.bosque@deped.gov.ph : 302082 Republic of the Philippines Department of Education REGION V - BICOL SCHOOLS DIVISION OFFICE OF CATANDUANES CARAMORAN SCHOOL OF FISHERIES Embracing a learner-centered teaching philosophy has been an enriching and transformative experience for both my students and myself. Throughout this time, I have strived to create an inclusive and engaging classroom environment where my students take an active role in their own learning. The consistent involvement of learners in the teaching-learning process has been the driving force behind the success we have achieved together. In the first quarter, I laid the foundation for a learner-centered approach by establishing a classroom community built on trust and respect. I encouraged students to voice their opinions, ideas, and concerns, ensuring that each voice was heard and valued. By fostering an open dialogue, we created a safe space where students felt comfortable taking risks and actively participating in discussions and group activities. Through regular class meetings, I sought their input on topics, teaching methods, and assessment strategies, making sure that their perspectives shaped our learning journey. During the second quarter, I focused on individualized instruction and differentiated learning experiences. Recognizing that every student possesses unique strengths, interests, and learning styles, I made a conscious effort to tailor my teaching methods to meet their diverse needs. I incorporated a variety of instructional strategies, such as project-based learning, collaborative group work, and hands-on activities. This allowed students to take ownership of their learning, make choices, and pursue topics that sparked their curiosity. By providing options and flexibility in assignments, assessments, and projects, students were empowered to take charge of their education, leading to increased engagement and motivation. In the third quarter, I introduced community-based projects that connected classroom learning to real-world applications. I encouraged students to identify local issues they were passionate about and guided them in designing projects that addressed these concerns. We had planned to produce products made by EIM that can be sell to the market, unfortunately due to budget constraints, it was not realized. I’m hoping that the next school year, it will be achieved. As we entered the final quarter, I focused on fostering independent learning and critical thinking skills. I provided students with opportunities to engage in selfcAddress Email School ID : Hitoma, Caramoran, Catanduanes : 302082@deped.gov.p; Bernardo.bosque@deped.gov.ph : 302082 Republic of the Philippines Department of Education REGION V - BICOL SCHOOLS DIVISION OFFICE OF CATANDUANES CARAMORAN SCHOOL OF FISHERIES reflection, set personal learning goals, and monitor their progress. By encouraging them to take ownership of their learning, I witnessed remarkable growth in their ability to think critically, solve problems, and make informed decisions. As a result, one of my student joined Technolympics and been awarded as 5th winner in the Division Technolympics. This gave us another avenue to share not only my expertise but more so the talents and skills of our dear students and their potentials. Looking forward to be on top again in this kind of competition and be able to produce skilled EIM students. Looking back at the past four quarters, I am filled with a deep sense of satisfaction and gratitude. The application of a learner-centered teaching philosophy has transformed my students into active participants in their own performance. By consistently involving them in the teaching-learning process, I have witnessed their growth, both academically and personally. They have developed a strong sense of self-efficacy, confidence, and a lifelong love for learning. However, this journey has also taught me the importance of ongoing reflection and adaptation. While the learner-centered approach has yielded incredible results, I recognize that each group of students is unique and may require adjustments to the teaching methods. As I move forward, I will continue to refine my practice, seek feedback from my students, and stay open to new ideas and pedagogical approaches. My commitment to a learner-centered philosophy remains unwavering, and I am excited to embark on the next academic year, armed with the invaluable insights gained from this transformative experience. The consistent involvement of learners in the teaching-learning process has been the cornerstone of my learner-centered teaching philosophy across the four quarters. I am confident that by embracing this approach, I have empowered my students to become lifelong learners, critical thinkers, and active contributors to society. Their growth and achievements are a testament to the power of learner-centered education, and I am honored to have been a part of their journey. ALVIN R. IBARDALOZA Teacher III ANNOTATION 1ST Quarter: AS AN OFFICER IN-CHARGE and VOCATIONAL DEPARTMENT HEAD DESIGNATE cAddress Email School ID : Hitoma, Caramoran, Catanduanes : 302082@deped.gov.p; Bernardo.bosque@deped.gov.ph : 302082 Republic of the Philippines Department of Education REGION V - BICOL SCHOOLS DIVISION OFFICE OF CATANDUANES CARAMORAN SCHOOL OF FISHERIES Teachers were given responsibilities and tasks for the entire school year at the start of the schoolyear. For the school year 2022-2023, I was assigned to be the Officer InCharge while our School Head is on Official Business, and the Vocational Department Head Designate in charge for MAKABAYAN Department. As the assigned designate, my task is to understand that embracing “lifelong learning” applies to educators as well as the students. This means fueling your desire to improve throughout your teaching career, through your reading and research. My principle of teaching is that, as an adviser, you must care deeply about the class and be fully invested in the students’ learning. To show my investment, I show up early for class, respond quickly to incidents occurring in school premises and arraignment of both parties involved (mulling and video posting incidences), and try to give substantive feedback on students’ work. I learn my students’ names early on. I intentionally convey my passion and enthusiasm through my words and my body language. I tell my students that I expect to learn as much from them as they from me, and I ask for their input on how to improve the class. In everything, I try to remind them that we are there to make massive progress on their intellectual and professional development. Another principle that I convey is the importance of encouraging students to work together and learn from each other and engaging the school stakeholders to participate in every school activities that we’ve met. Challenges remain constant, but remembering these principles in mind helps me strive toward the goal stated in my own statement of purpose. As a result, I requested the Barangay Captain of Hitoma, Hon. Herbert C. Coranez for the Motor Control Unit owned by their barangay for which I am extending my expertise with its maintenance and repair. This motor unit is a big help for my EIM students not only that they will be able to observed onhand but more so do their hands on activities with the motor unit to which our school still cant afford. I realized that its really an advantage that you make friends with stakeholders and do them favor for the next time you’ll know, you needed them too specially when it comes to the benefits of our students. 2nd Quarter: AS SPEAKER IN OUR IN-SERVICE TRAINING (INSET)FOR TEACHERS Our school head gave me an opportunity to discussed about the RPMS: Its Legal Basis and Cycle. Honestly, I am the type of person who don’t read much of memos, guidelines from time to time, but because of this I was able to learned more about the new cAddress Email School ID : Hitoma, Caramoran, Catanduanes : 302082@deped.gov.p; Bernardo.bosque@deped.gov.ph : 302082 Republic of the Philippines Department of Education REGION V - BICOL SCHOOLS DIVISION OFFICE OF CATANDUANES CARAMORAN SCHOOL OF FISHERIES guidelines for RPMS and its quite a challenge at first since I didn’t attend such orientation. But then I was thankful enough that after reading the memo, I gained full understanding of the cycle including its IPCRF for which as of this moment, I am enjoying writing my notes on this. For most of teachers, this RPMS is a burden, but for me, I think this is the best version of RPMS/IPCRF ever. The MOVs are specific and objectively crafted. It really tells the story of the life of a teacher-Classroom Instruction and Professional Development to improve our teaching-learning strategies. It provided me a meaningful experience and most importantly above all-it gave me the right direction of how I am going to be a best teacher as well as a colleague that they can count on specially that I am designated Head in our department. I am confident enough and happy to impart whatever I gain in this quarter. That we teachers should not consider a piece or pieces of papers a burden or additional work for us, instead it is a clear guidelines and evident-based one that could improve our job as teachers. 3rd Quarter: AS AN OBSERVER MENTORING MY CO-TEACHER Another opportunity came to me this School year as our School Head entrusted me Classroom Observation of Makabayan department Teachers. One of the highlights of my classroom observation is the one with a newly hired teacher whom employed to us. This is the first time I actually did such observation, although I already experienced demonstration teaching but its quite challenging because this time, I am giving a rating to my co-teacher who’s just newly joined. I don’t want to be remembered with negative moments such as me giving low ratings, but as honest person I am, and I know the responsibility of a rater- I must carefully weigh on this. Because this is not just a coteacher but she’s a main player of team molding students. I believe this is the right time to improve our teaching-learning process. I know Maam Tuboro is just new in her craft and I want her to remember our encounter not personally about her but something that could give an impact to our students, hence I gave the most honest notes on her and gave her insights on how she can improve teaching. Since I am already on my 12 th year in this career, I gave her suggestions on how to manage her class specifically what are the things she needed to emphasize with her learners and sustain their attention in the whole duration of their class. 4th Quarter: AS WINNING COACH DURING TECHNOLYMPICS AND LEAD PROPONENT/FACILITATOR OF LAC SESSION cAddress Email School ID : Hitoma, Caramoran, Catanduanes : 302082@deped.gov.p; Bernardo.bosque@deped.gov.ph : 302082 Republic of the Philippines Department of Education REGION V - BICOL SCHOOLS DIVISION OFFICE OF CATANDUANES CARAMORAN SCHOOL OF FISHERIES It has been years since the last time I joined the Division Technolympics. Given the shortest notice, I was hesitant at first. Although, I have already in my mind who’s student to be send for competition. The fact that we have limited time and scarce of resources. But With the God’s grace and support of our school head- it’s a go! With only 3 days of coaching and polishing electrical wirings, being on top 5 is not bad, though I aimed to be on top again. This is another opportunity to showcase the talents of our students, that even though we are a far school with limited resources, we can also go with other big schools. Our learner gained a lot in this competition,. He was able to evaluate himself and knew what improvements styill he can work out for the next opportunity. No amount of scarcity and limitedness of time can stop me or us from developing and capacitating our students with their skills. EIM has been one of the promising careers not only here in the Philippines but in abroad. And so I wanted to focus and produce more quality graduates and dreaming for National Certificates for our students for which they can used in their exit have they decided to work after Senior High. Another challenging task was given to me in the last quarter: to lead the Makabayan/TLE teachers in our yearly Learning Action Cell Session. We know that LAC session as mandated to us, is evidently serving as an effective way of holding sessions for professional growth and development of teachers. This will enrich teaching-learning practices and will address the difficulties encountered by the teachers as well as the learners. It is also a time to make uniform outline and /or strategies for the advancement of learners. In this session, almost all our TLE teachers imparted their expertise and commendable way of teaching-learning processes. Human as we are, we are not perfect, and seeing the best practices from others and learning from them, is a good way to improve our teaching. In all of these, not only we benefited from those techniques but most specially-our dear students. With the pressure and loaded teaching, we might not be doing all the things, but by this session, we were able to witnessed our colleagues as well as assessed ourselves if we could do what they’re doing when deemed necessary and beneficial. I am excited for next school year and see if I could also touch my EIM with music or dance like what Mr. Renz Timbal shared during our LAC session. Also, I think its better to offer students alternatives so they will bot get bored and help them stay on track while enjoying what they do. ALVIN R.
