сформулировать ответ и произнести его вслух);
-Эллиптические конструкции типа Not many или Sure.
без развертывания они не будут засчитаны как правильный ответ;
которой следует пауза для ответа;
можно уловить общий смысл вопроса и ответить на него;
конце вопроса звучит why/why not;
2
I believe/ In my opinion/ To my mind/ Personally, I
believe и т.д.;

5
Task 4. Imagine that you are doing a project ‘Life without gadgets’
together with your friend. You have found some illustrations and want
to share the news. Leave a voice message to your friend. In 2.5 minutes
be ready to tell the friend about the photos:
● give a brief description of the photos, justifying the choice of the photos
for the project;
● say in what way the pictures are different, justifying the choice of the
photos for the project;
● mention the advantages and disadvantages (1–2) of the two types of
books;
● express your opinion on the subject of the project – whether you would
like to live without gadgets and why.
You will speak for not more than 3 minutes (2–3 sentences for every item of
the plan, 12–15 sentences total). You have to talk continuously.
отходя от темы;
Hello, Olga/Oleg, I‘d like to discuss with you
6

the choice of the photos for our project. / Hi,Misha/Masha, I’ve found
two photos for our project and I’d like to discuss them with you.
могли подобрать иллюстрации, а вам удалось их найти);
быть связаны с темой проекта (justifying the choice of the photos for
the project).
The first photo shows two people in the street. / I
can see a group of people in the mountains in the first photo;
быть связаны с темой проекта;
тему проекта;
теме/проблеме проектной работы и обосновать его;
That’s all I wanted to discuss with you. / That’s all for
now;
7
● give a brief description of the
photos, justifying the choice of
the photos for the project;
Hi, Olga. I`ve found some suitable
photos for our project `Life without
gadgets` and now I`m going to tell
you about them in more detail.
Both photos show two women who
are reading. The first photo shows a
lady in the library whereas the
second one depicts a girl reading at
home. We can see they are enjoying
their activities as they look happy
and they are smiling.
● say in what way the pictures
are different, justifying the
choice of the photos for the
project;
However, there are some differences
between these two pictures. One
striking difference is that the lady in
the first picture is studying a printed
book and the lady in the second
picture is reading some information
on her e-reader. Another difference
is the place where they are reading.
In picture 1 we can see that the
woman is studying her book in a
public place and there are other
people around her, but in picture 2
the woman is reading at home alone.
● mention the advantages and
Moreover, we can point out the
disadvantages (1–2) of the two advantages and disadvantages of
types of books;
reading different types of books. In
my opinion, the advantages of
reading printed books are the special
smell, feeling pages with your fingers
or collecting beautiful bookmarks.
But, the disadvantage here is a lot of
space and shelves which you need
to keep all your printed books.
The advantage of ebooks is that they
are environmentally friendly. Also,
8
when reading e-readers you don't
need any extra light in the room.
However, as we know, all electronic
devices have to be charged, they are
usually expensive and can damage
eyesight.
● express your opinion on the
subject of the project – whether
you would like to live without
gadgets and why yes or no.
Well, personally, I wouldn't like to live
without gadgets, because we live in
the epoch of the internet and new
technologies and I can’t imagine my
life without electronic devices.
That’s all I wanted to say. Thank
you.

Teens are spending less time on paid ()__________ during the school year at

Five Nikola Tesla predictions that came true
History books don’t care about the people who nearly changed the world...
except perhaps in the case of Nikola Tesla. Nikola Tesla was a SerbianAmerican inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, physicist, and
futurist born in 1856. Many of his theories, inventions, and predictions are still
remembered today.
In Nikola Tesla's Electric Dreams we find out that he may have predicted
some of the most influential technology of the last few decades. Here are five
predictions that he got right…
1. ___________________
Nikola Tesla's obsession with wireless technology led to several inventions
and theories that focused on transmitting data without wires. While Guglielmo
Marconi was first to send letters in morse code across the Atlantic, Tesla
wanted to go further. He boldly predicted that one day it would be possible to
transmit telephone signals, documents, music and video around the world
using wireless technology. While this was something that he never achieved
46
in his own lifetime, his prediction came true in the early 1990s with the
invention of the world wide web.
2. ___________________
Another forecast for the future that Tesla made was in an interview with
Collier’s magazine in 1926. Building on his idea of technology capable of
transmitting images, music, and even video throughout the world, he coined
the phrase 'vest-pocket' technology and possibly predicted the invention of
the smartphone nearly 100 years before it became physically available. On
the technology, he said: 'We shall be able to witness and hear events... just
as though we were present.'
3. ___________________
His interview with Colliers in 1926 was entitled 'When Woman Is Boss' and
largely focused on how he thought that women would one day use wireless
technology to gain better education and employment. While it's difficult to
directly link technology to the social and political female emancipation of the
past 100 years, it's clear that women are becoming world leaders in the areas
of technology, such as CEO of Yahoo!, Marissa Mayer, and Sheryl Sandberg,
currently a chief operating officer of Facebook; and that women are using
technology to raise awareness of global issues and movements, such as the
#metoo campaign.
4. ___________________
In 1898, Tesla demonstrated a wireless and remote-controlled 'teleautomaton', which most of us today would refer to as a remote-controlled toy
boat. Harnessing the power of wireless communication, robotics, and logic
gates he astounded onlookers with this new technology, and many people
assumed there was a tiny monkey controlling it from the inside. Believing that
there would one day be a role for remote-controlled machines, he wasn't that
far off the developments in drone technology that we've seen in recent years.
5. ___________________
Tesla's main passion was electricity. He boldly proclaimed that 'the progress
of the whole human race is regulated by the power available, and was
referring to his belief that a free supply of electricity would help people
struggling with poverty and a scarcity of resources. In 1901 he began building
Wardenclyffe, a wireless communication tower on the East Coast of the
United States, to transmit energy across the Atlantic. It was never finished.
His investors at JP Morgan weren't happy about offering everything for free
and his plan for energy and an early internet for the world came crashing
down in 1902. Literally. The tower was blown up in an attempt to recoup the
47
money from the scrap and the world had to wait another 90 years for a public
world wide web.

4. Put in the order that they appear the following extracts from the
article:
a)
In 1901 he began building Wardenclyffe, a wireless communication
tower.
b)
On the technology, he said: 'We shall be able to witness and hear
events... just as though we were present.'
c)
While this was something that he never achieved in his own lifetime, his
prediction came true in the early 1990s with the invention of the world
wide web.
d)
His interview with Colliers in 1926 was entitled 'When Woman Is Boss'
e) Nikola Tesla's obsession with wireless technology led to several
inventions and theories that focused on transmitting data without wires.
1. _______ 2. _______ 3. _______ 4. _______ 5. _______
Choose five inventions that we use nowadays and explain their
importance.
5. You can see an interview about technology, read the answers below
and write down the questions:
Q:
A: Well, yes, in my opinion, technologies are developing faster and faster
every year.
Q:
A: No, I’m not: although technologies develop pretty fast, it doesn't scare me
at all: I`m always excited to learn something new, so I'm not worried about
being left behind.
Q:
48
A: I`m pretty good at using devices, so usually I don`t read the instruction
manual when buying something new: I just try to figure it out by myself or ask
parents for help.
Q:
A: Well, to be honest, I do like to have cutting-edge technology devices. In
my mind, there are no disadvantages to having the latest product, only
positive sides. For example, when buying the latest product you can install
the best and fastest software and enjoy the work of your device.
Q:
A: I use some social network services daily: Instagram, TikTok, and VK. Each
of these social media sites has its pros and cons: for example, it's very
convenient to chat with my friends on VK, but it's not a good network to post
photos there, because nobody is interested in them. People use Instagram
and TikTok to share photos and videos. It's easy to upload something to
these social networking services and make new friends, but watching all reels
and posts can be very time-consuming.
