1 TUTORING LESSON PLAN (*first and last sessions only) Date: Sunday, September 3, 2023 Start Time: 1:07 pm End Time: 2:43 pm Session Components Anecdotal Notes *Provide a detailed, narrative of your plan for each component. Include the books and materials needed, what you’re going to do/say, and what your goals are for each session component. Record here what happened during the session. will help you plan for next time. First Session: Get to Know your Students (For the last session, you will do some type of culminating activity here (i.e. make something, read a book that the students would like, etc. as long as you make this a type of closure activity) (tell about yourself, what you like, what you like to read, why you are tutoring the students (you can include reading materials other than books also) etc. (approx. 10 minutes) Be as specific as you can. These notes I found out that Isaiah likes baseball and played on a team this summer. He likes outdoor activities like fishing with his dad and two older brothers. He went on a cruise with his family for their summer vacation. We played “This or That” (a get-to-know-you activity) & discussed what fun things we each did over the summer. Reading/Writing/Concepts of Print Assessments (For the last session this will be post testing) You must administer all eight assessments (technically, there are seven assessments because Alphabet Knowledge and Sound Symbol Recognition are measured within the same assessment) Student can spell and write his name legibly, but other than that – he likes to draw more than write. He can spell a couple of simple words like dog and cat aloud, but cannot write them down or recognize (read) them in print yet. Student was very restless and easily distracted during the assessments, so we had to take several breaks (he pretty much got up and moved around between each one). Recap the original goals of the session with the students and let them know what they can anticipate when you meet again! (For the last session, recap what was learned throughout the session or any other way you want to culminate the learning) (3 minutes or less) I let the student (and parents) know that every session would not consist of this many tasks/assessments, and that I would try to find material/topics for us to read that he would be interested in. Your Reflections and Next Steps: Student does not like to sit still for long periods of time, so I will pre-plan movement breaks in between activities for him next time. I also think that he would benefit from manipulatives that he can put his hands on and move around, so I will plan on bringing my colorful magnetic foam letters to our next session to use as a word building kit. We can practice our letters and sounds. I believe that he is a tactile learner and will learn best through his sense of touch with this hands-on activity. I will look into finding some kinesthetic learning ideas to use with him as well.
