ANTH 1100 / 1105 ONLINE GROUP PRESENTATIONS Groups are created by the instructor at the beginning of the semester, and each group has a preassigned presentation date and topic question. Students have about three weeks to communicate with the instructor if they are unable to present on their preassigned week or topic. During the first weeks of classes, the instructor will create zoom rooms for each presentation group to meet, exchange contact information and start preparing their presentations. Your presentation must follow the following order: 1. Topic Question (2 -3 minutes long) a. Define main concepts in the topic question. i. Each topic question contains two concepts. For instance, if your question is “What is the relationship between colonialism and the nation-state?” Your two concepts are: colonialism and nation-state. If your topic question includes three concepts, your group can make the decision to present only two. 2. Presentation of Readings and Other sources (from the list assigned for that week). Each reading/source must be presented in relation to or in light of the two main concepts in your topic question. Each student will have 2 or 3 minutes to present a reading or other source. a. 1st reading (the first reading must always be presented) b. Other reading/source c. Other reading/source d. Other reading/source 3. Answer the Topic Question a. The group’s answer to this question must be revised after listening to the Professor’s Lecture on this Topic, and after doing the readings. 4. Current Event (3 - 5 minutes) a. The current event must address the topic question, or some aspect of the topic question. b. Look at several news articles and other sources to present the current event to the class in a clear manner: Where is it taking place? What is the conflict? How is it relevant to your topic question? 5. Two Discussion Questions for the Group (5 minutes) a. The group will moderate the class discussion. i. Think of questions that might stir / start a group conversation. b. The professor will intervene or support when necessary Guidelines: ● ● ● ● ● ● You can record your presentation using PowerPoint, Google Slides, or any other slide show presentation program. Group members must agree on a presentation program. The presentation will be between 15 and 20 minutes long. You must start preparing for your group presentation as soon as possible. The professor’s lecture will help you edit your slide show once it is completed, before presenting it to the group. The group must always present the first reading assigned for your week. The group must choose which other readings/films/podcasts will present - depending on the number of group members. For instance, if your group is composed of 2 members, someone from your group must present the first reading and then choose any other from the rest of the assigned sources. Each student should demonstrate that they read all articles/chapters/other media, and participated in putting together the presentation. This might be further assessed by questions asked by the instructor or classmates. All the parts of the presentation must be coherent.
